The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
When are the stations going to listen to what viewers with any intellect actually want to see? This is a wonderfully written and acted show.
This station especially seems to cancel any show I like – but this station and other stations keep on the mindless dribble that has no acting ability and fake reality shows!
I stopped watching all programming on one station for removing a show I loved; it may be that I will have to add this station to the list.
Horrible! This is one of the best shows out there now!
So disappointed perception is being cancelled. Love the show. TNT sucks.
We can’t believe perception is being cancelled. We love this show. Hopefully, CBS will reconsider this terrible idea. Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife and I really liked Perception due to its psychological education mixed with crime drama, and mystery. The whole premise of Daniel Pierce being a very gifted professor, regardless of a mental disability was definitely a fantastic way to express the possibility of someone overcoming great adversity and yet still lead a productive life. I, myself, am mentally disabled with combat PTSD, and somehow, even though I realize that this is a fictional show, I draw comfort, motivation and hope from it. I am truly disappointed in its cancellation, since there are no other shows that give me this… Read more »
It’s a shame that decent programming that does not consist of either the “win at any cost” or bathroom humor does not seem able to survive past a few seasons. Perception is a good drama program that can be watched without worrying about scenes that are too bloody or graphic to watch. It also demonstrates that people with mental “disabilities” can function in a “normal” society. There are becoming fewer TV shows on that are worth watching. Unfortunately there are some decent programs on at the same time. I wonder if this is taken into account with so many of… Read more »
I feel like these networks don’t actually care about quality television. It seems that every time I love a show it gets cancelled yet there are tons of stupid boring programming drivel that gets renewed season after season. Maybe Netflix will pick this show up.
I am so sick of good shows being cancelled in order to put more crappy tv shows on. I love the originality of perception and wo t watch anything in its place
TNT is making a mistake by canceling Perception.
It is a well written mystery without all the gore. We find it hard to find shows that we actually look forward to watching.
I thought this had already been decided and Perception would be continued for a Season 4. Sad how we perceive things to be not worthy of renewal when many people I know are just discovering the show and reviewing past seasons. Very nice to have entertainment and education combined in a show and I would watch it on any channel, just let me know which one.
I am so disappointed that TNT is cancelling this show. I agree that ratings are based on those watching live, however you should also take into account how many viewers DVR the show to watch at a later date? DOES ANYONE FROM TNT NETWORK EVEN READ THESE COMMENTS? Instead of shooting yourselves in the foot. You should be reading what viewers are writing and hearing what they are saying which is making more episodes instead of cancelling an excellent show. Shame on you TNT for not taking into consideration all factors before just up and cancelling a much watched series.
Please don’t cancel Perception. It has been a good (not the norm) mystery show. I love the caricatures . I hate reality shows and if that’s all that would be on I wouldn’t watch tv. Yes I would watch it if it was on another channel. we watch a lot of TNT shows. but also all other channels. Hope we can keep it alive.
CLEARLY OUR VOICES CANNOT BE HEARD HERE!!!! How do we reach TNT and tell them this is one of the best most creative shows ever made and they would be fools to cancel it!! What are they gonna do replace with a lame-ass copy cat cop show ??? I am so SICK OF THOSE!!
You said it!!!!!!! People are we going to unite or are we going to keep wishing? If you wish in one hand and take the crap from TNT in the other hand tell me which hand is going to fill up first!!
Perception is a very entertaining series and it would be a great loss to cancel it. I don’t know how they get their counts, but I’m sure all the Rizzoli and Isles fans will be disappointed to have it cancelled also. We’re Seniors and we don’t want “Horror, Reality or Gruesome programs. We like what Perception offers. My son is in his 40s and he I a Perception fan also. Keep this great clean light hearted mystery program.
Why do networks cancel shows, such as “Perception,” that are entertaining, interesting and have decent viewership? We viewers are left with very little else to watch when you do cancel good shows. We don’t need “edgy.” We need “good.” Don’t cancel “Perception.” It is one of our few TV pleasures, along with “Rizzoli and Isles,” and I am certain we are not the only viewers who feel this way.
