NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
I love munn as much as the next guy but let’s not kid ourselves this show was awful.
sorry for the fans and for Olivia…
This was one of the best new shows on TV this season. Sucks to see a show like this go.
The only question I have is: how the heck did this show ever make it onto the Thursday night lineup in the first place?? It’s TERRIBLE! Let’s look at NBC’s lineup:
Community (campus comedy)
P.C.
Parks and Rec (workplace comedy)
The Office (workplace comedy)
Outsourced (workplace comedy)
30 Rock (workplace comedy)
It doesn’t fit the theme of the night in any way, shape, or form. Maybe it would’ve fit on a Monday or Tuesday, but Thursday? Who is the cracksmoker at NBC who scheduled this?
Lame. I love this show. So annoying that it is being canceled. At least air all the episodes already made. By far my favorite sitcom.
I was just saying that this show is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while! I can’t believe they would make the mistake to cancel it! I am shocked. My husband and I love it.
This show is amazing.. not sure why people dont watch it or like it… Its the best show on Thursday night.. so well cast and very well written… this makes me so sad to think it will not come back : (
This is the best show! I was just getting do excited evey week for it to come on! How can it be cancelled? Horrible decision!
Whhhyyyyyyy???? If NBC execs were sitting on my couch on any given Thursday night they would clearly see that Perfect Couples and 30 Rock are the only two shows worth watching! This show is adorable! The writingis great, the cast is perfect and I would hate to see it go. Please guys……….please?? Leave the show where it is.
Are you JOKING? This show is so well written and clever. I don’t know why we follow these ratings. You know what show gets good ratings? JERSEY FREAKING SHORE. I am so sick and tired of moronic “reality” shows getting renewed for multiple seasons and great shows like Perfect Couples getting passed over because ONLY 3 million people watch it.
I love Perfect Couples. It’s one of the best new sitcoms in years. I admit that it’s mainly because of Kyle Bornheimer who I find to be hilarious. He was one of the main characters of the canceled show “Worst Week”, which was hands down the funniest new show I’ve seen since “The Office”. Very few shows make me laugh out loud, but “Worst Week” did consistently, even alone. “Perfect Couples” seems to be getting the same treatment by NBC that “Worst Week” did by CBS. I hate it when great new shows are canceled by execs for low early… Read more »
What a bummer. Such a hilarious fresh show, the wife and I just started watching a few weeks back. I don’t understand how it can be getting poor ratings in this lineup! Gonna miss it! Hopefully we’ll see the last few episodes sometime.
Me and my lady really loved this show, it really related to a lot of things we go through together. I am soo sad to see this show go we really love it. We both love Community which is how we discovered Perfect Couples but fell equally in love with Perfect Couples. We both wish it could have been like Always Sunny in Phili and the League two great shows that we can co exist and make us bust out laughing too bad a great show not a good show but a great show.
One of my fave shows and funnier shows on tv right now!!! I love how well written it and can’t believe it’s being cancelled!!! I freaked pissed!!! It needs a better time slot since everybody watches American idol which by the way I stopped watching the decaps just so I can watch perfect couples! Yeah I’m freaken pissssssed grrrrre
Really creative writing and couldn’t ask for better casting.
I LOVE THIS SHOW. I think its hilarious. Please Please Please keep this show!!!! Or another network pick it up, I will watch every episode
I LOVEEEE this show!! I googled the show today only to find that it’s being cancelled. WHAT?!! This is one of the best shows out yet! It is soooo funny and different. This is no Friends ripoff as the humor is very different. It’s more of a dry humor sitcom and if you like the Office, you’d love this show. I am SOOOO disappointed.
