The ratings have come down quite a bit (again) this year but CBS has decided to keep Person of Interest around for a fifth season.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Airing on Tuesday nights at 10pm, the fourth season of the series has averaged a 1.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.42 million viewers. Compared to the third season, that’s down by 22% in the demo and down by 20% in viewership.
It’s in the middle of the pack of CBS’ current crop of scripted series and its fate could have gone either way. A fifth season will put Person of Interest over the 100 episode mark, making for a solid-sized syndication package, which may have played a role in the renewal.
What do you think? Do you like the Person of Interest series? Do you think season five should be the end?
Update: It looks like season five may be the end for Person of Interest on CBS.
I love this show. I’m so glad Person of Interest has been renewed for Season 5.
Although I agree with a lot of problems pointed out (Especially changing from saving people to fighting a mega conspiracy taking over the world). I really think they jumped the shark big time on the finale. Not only did it make less sense, but they went dumb in the end. They are outnumbered by what’s assumed to be trained law or mercs, with automatic fire power and the just stand in the open firing back. Especially the last scene with Harold as they walk bunched up while being fired on with machine guns. My mother has Macula Degeneration, and even… Read more »
Person of Interest has truly evolved over the four seasons it has been running. The early episodes worked well for the main part of the cerebral bell curve. Easy to understand and didn’t require a lot of thought as they save one insignificant number after another. However now we see the plot move to a position where every episode is wrestling match between good and evil with poor Harold stuck in the middle trying to remain ethically centered. I can see why in this world, where people want to be told what is right and what is not, people have… Read more »
Good news. Now I hope Root will finally be IN ALL 23 EPISODES OF THE SEASON. It would be much appreciated.
I really enjoy POI but I am ready for Samaritan to go, I agree with some cyber conspiracy but it is time to let the evil one go to delete pile. I was hoping the Machine and its human assets would win in the season finale but it is a lot to wrap up. Three to five episodes for the next season, PLEASE WRITERS WRAP IT UP. Hopefully , by then Shaw will be back. I also did not like the way all the great pain in butt characters got hit by Samaritan. Elias, actor Nick Tarabay, the Brotherhood, Dominic,… Read more »
Totally agree Phillip. Why kill off everyone at once? Oh, wait. To make room for the MACHINE, the evil one, to take over the bulk of the story line. I really tried to watch it and stay into it, but my husband and I simply couldn’t do it.
Glad, I love the sci-fi direction the show is going in. I think Root’s the best addition this show has ever had, I was very upset when Carter died but Root was the one that kept me watching and intrigued. I love all the characters I hope no more die!
person of interest is one of my favorite shows I hope CBS renewed I look forward to watching it every week
I have followed this show from the get-go I absolutely adore the characters and the whole story it’s self. I have never found a single episode to be boring or dull. I hope the 5th season is NOT the end of the series. I greatly enjoy watching it. I don’t believe I’ve missed a single airing. Even when there was re-runs I would still watch it. Amazing show, The characters are amazing and played very well. The concept is terrific, it draws you in to watch.
Person of Interest had a great formula when they concentrated on helping New Yorkers whose number came up on The Machine. They pretty well lost my wife and me by the end of Season 3 when they veered from that format by trying to create a more apocalyptic, cataclysmic battle between the good Machine and evil Samaritan, and by bringing the sociopathic character Root to the fore through her relationship with The Machine. The villains Greer and Control are simply boring, as was Vigilance. Obviously, the writers of POI are challenged when it comes to crafting cosmic conspiracy theories; they… Read more »
Wonderfully stated Elliot! That was the other thing that lost me and my husband’s interest. This whole cyber conspiracy/war that the writers concocted totally lost my interest. Root should have never become a permanent character on the show. She was good for a few episodes, maybe one season and then she should have been gone.
Person of Interest lost it’s appeal when they went away from helping PEOPLE and trying to end corruption and more into the machine and the power it wields.
And Sonya, my wife and I totally concur with your comments about killing off Carter. She was more essential to the show than anyone except Finch and Reese, and her loss created a void that has never been filled, including for the character Reese. The writers and producers should have paid heed to the adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!
I couldn’t agree more Elliot! I know they wanted to shake things up and explore other storylines, but I feel that was a HUGE risk for them to take as well. The continued downfall in ratings speak for itself. I know Taraji had other projects and movies she wanted to do, but I believe if she had the option of staying on with POI she would have. They made it clear to her from the beginning that her character would eventually get killed off, she just never knew when, so I don’t blame her for lining up other projects in… Read more »
Finally happy to see an official renewal this show it has so much going for it for to end here! The show got stiffed with the timeslot they moved it to and it’s pulling in good 10pm ratings demo and viewers for cbs but the Samaritan story line needs to be wrapped up soon and hopefully get back to helping numbers and having conspiracy’s and flashbacks there’s so many string to pick up on from the 1st couple of years.
It would have been a sin against humanity to drop this show after the wild cliffhanger of a last episode.
I would like to see more of the woman that plays the fixer, she’s great, but other than that i enjoy the twists and turns. I’m just wondering if Colossus is going to be facing the martians (obscure forbin project reference).
Person of Interest is the only show I watch on primetime television.
I love Jim Caviezel- that’s why I started watching Person of Interest.
Although it is an action-oriented series, this show really gets you to care
about all of the characters. The cast is excellent- the best of the best!
I just wish that CBS would have the sense to renew Battlecreek.
I loved the show the first three seasons. Even after I found out that Carter aka Taraji P. Henson was leaving I said I’d keep being a faithful viewer and go with the flow. HOWEVER……..that was a very hard thing to do because her absence confirmed how pivotal her character was to the show. It simply wasn’t the same for me. Reese had an emotional connection to Carter, and now that she’s gone who does he have that with now? It’s not the same. He and Carter had a special bond with a low undercurrent of romance brewing and I… Read more »
well if you haven’t seen this show, how would you know who found Reese? 😉
I enjoy the show very much.
I feel the show when down when capt.
Carter left the show. I really miss her.
The show needs another person like her
To make it more interesting.
Add more beautiful women also.
Glad it’s renewed.
We love this show, but they keep killing off main characters and the story line has gotten silly and old.
It is already a James Bond type thing, you know it cannot happen, but this whole Simeratis needs to end already, its been dragging on WAY too long.
