Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
This is one of my favorite shows. I was disappointed when CBS cancelled Mentalist, another one of my favorite shows. DO NOT CANCEL this show, too. I find very little that I like to watch on these networks as it is. I don’t like all this new “garbage” they are putting on. There doesn’t seem to be any story line to them and as far as Reality TV shows go — I DON’T WATCH THEM AT ALL! I think we should go back to the themes we had in the 70’s and 80’s with the moral content as well ie:… Read more »
If/when they cancel, I am quitting television. Its one of the only shows that has a complex and interesting story line with the whole sci fi but realistic feel. But for some reason shows like Hawaii 5-0 (the remake) gets renewed. Weak.
Please don’t cancel poi it’s my favorite tv show. I never miss a episode.
I love this show! Great casting, great writing and character development, interesting premise. DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!
YES, Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!
I just found “Person of Interest” on netflix this summer. I am disappointed that there are only 3 seasons there. I don’t watch much tv, but will be watching this show for sure when it continues to air. I wish they would do more than 13 episodes this year. I don’t want to see it end. Our whole family is hooked, and will follow wherever it goes.
My husband and I love POI. It is the best show on TV by far. Please don’t cancel this show. In my opinion you should put it in Blue Blood’s time slot… now that is a show that should be axed!
When Carter was killed, that really hurt the show— although I’ve read this was “part of the plan” right from the start. Then Shaw was killed.
Casting decisions just didn’t make sense. I feared POI would be cancelled. And it really looks like it has been— just like “The Mentalist.” But in the case of “The Mentalist” it was the obsession with “Red John” that killed the series. In “POI” it’s just one misstep after another that killed a very good show!
Shaw wasn’t killed. There’s a lot of room for her to come back. That “casting decision” wasn’t up to the producers/writers. Sarah Shahi got pregnant with twins, so had to leave the show. There’s a lot open for her to return, and she says she’d love to as well. We’ll have to see what happens with this late-start half season, which might help her return.
Thanks to Netflix I found this show recently and cannot stop watching. They only have season 1-3 on there and I was scared that was it. I’m so thrilled to beard there’s more and will definitely be watching on TV to get ratings up. This show is fantastic in every sense of the words. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch more.
I have loved this show and just now checked to see when it was airing for this season. I didn’t realize it was in trouble and would watch it anyplace. Why do they keep junk on and keep getting rid of my favorite shows? I almost hate to get interested in shows today because I always seem to lose the ones I love.
Wondered when the season’s first show would be aired. Love this show and have been waiting patiently for their new season! It is has great writers, is fast paced, well acted, and just plan fascinating!
I would Definetly follow it to another network!
It stinks, really , really bad, that garbage like 2 broke girls, CSI New Orleans, and just plain stupid shows are kept on, and ones that are creative, and interesting are axed………
It seems like all the crappy and nonsensical shows get renewed year after year but the well written and intriguing shows get axed. How they do their ratings is a mystery to me . I have given up watching CBS
No intelligence left in the world.
I will definitely follow it
I really like Person of Interest. I know if I tell my friend, Kris, he is probably going to break down and cry. I may not tell him that the show might canceled. I really hope CBS does not cancel the show. I like all the actors and actresses that are in the show. Jim Caviezel is my favorite actor in the show. I have also watched him in several movies. I mainly watch CBS. Please don’t cancel Person of Interest!!!!
My husband and I love POI. Do not cancel it. Awesome show.
