Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
Love this show. Smart, thought provoking, fun, exciting with great actors and characters.
I did’t want to leave Elias out. He could go back to teaching with a new identity and Zoe could also be a full time member of the team. Sounds like a happy ending that could be the series called finale. Just like in CSI New York’s finale where he fell in love again and found happiness to temper the tragic memories of his first wife who he lost in the twin towers tragedy. What do you all think
Cannot believe they’re cancelling this awesomely intriguing show while trying to turn us into mindless zombies with shows like “Supergirl”. Really?
Look, this was a regularly viewed show at my house. Take off some of the other stuff, but leave this be. Well, maybe it was to real about the government watching people????
My husband and I loved the show. You can take Criminal Minds off, maybe some of the crazy’s won’t try and copy all the blood and guts that is show on that show, as a matter-of-fact, I try my channel every Wednesday night, right before that show come on.
Please Please don’t cancel POI – after 24 was cancelled it became my most favorite show – I record it and watch every episode! One of the only shows that holds my interest enough to sit and watch the entire show without getting up and doing something else!!!
I love the show. Would keep watching no matter where it lands (not thrilled with CBS anyways). Sadly, the overall story does seem to be wrapping up to some degree, and if they put in a full season for S5, I could easily see it ending quite completely. Even with this half-season nonsense, there may not be a whole lot of places for main story to go. I think they’d be hard-pressed to get another 2 seasons out of it (without jumping the proverbial shark, that is), which I would think would be necessary to another network if they were… Read more »
I think if CBS keeps the show I could see John, Harold, Fusco, and Root taking Samaritan down with Shaw making a comeback to assist in its destruction and in taking out Samaritan’s ruthless mentor. I don’t know what they would do with the little boy but maybe Root could bring him to benevelont side just as she was transformed to do good. With Detectve Carter’s help they all took down HR so they could take down Samaritan too. With Samaritan gone Harold could go and seek out Grace and show her he is not dead. I could also see… Read more »
do not take this show away
I love the show as well. I think it’s a great show and should not be cancelled. CBS should cancel those lame reality shows.
Person of Interest is a mind stimulating show,, Jim is quite a sexy man. The networks
are cheap, that don’t want quality shows, just stupid reality shows that are mindless.
I will be willing to watch POI wherever it is show. Hopefully cable networks will pick it up.
This show holds my interest and even with the departure of Ms. Henson it still is a fun show to watch and the action is sustainable.
I LOVE the show Person of Interest. Please don’t cancel it.

POI is a show that is very multilayered and complex and is one of the few new shows I like. I don’t think CBS should cancel it; I would watch on another channel.

Please keep going with Person of Interest! Great show…I’ll watch it wherever it moves to!
I absolutely hate that CBS has no taste in their shows. This is the second time that I show I really like is likely to be cancelled. The shows that challenge you to think and grab your interest are the ones they seem to cancel. I loved the Mentalist and they cancelled it. Please tell the people in charge of their decision making that they are fools to cancel or entertain cancelling Person of Interest. This is a good show for the most part. There were a couple of topics in the last few episodes I could have done without!… Read more »
I agree CBS is a crappy network!! I don’t watch it except Jeopardy! CBS can eat lint!!!!
Yeah, a lot of these networks would rather have toilet shows like Big Brother and survivor which I find mentally mind numbing and insulting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
