Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
I would watch season 5 and beyond. This is a good show with excellent story and writing. The story line never gets old; good vs evil.
I’m fed up! I use to be able to depend on CBS to provide decent TV Shows. Quality shows that are intriguing, suspenseful, fun, and make you use your brain are canceled yet we are left with garbage shows. PLEASE KEEP THIS POI SHOW GOING! Other than NCIS, this is my favorite show…EVER!
Of course I would. I
am disappointed with all of these networks canceling these shows. I mean you get interested in a show and it’s canceled. I’m definitely going to Netflix before it’s all said and done.
Not Again!
I found this show on Netflix. It captured my attention and imagination. Sick and Pissed off!
What!!! My husband and I just recently found POI on Netflix. It’s a quality show that we both enjoy. Why cancel a good show when there is so much trash on tv?
Ok. So CBS is going to end it because it is made by Warner Bros (like Mentalist) and as result CBS doesn’t make the big profits. So my comment is to the writers and Warner Bros. Do not do a 13 episode wrap up. The wrap up on Mentalist was rushed and seemed trite. Leave it at another cliff hanger and shop it to another outlet. Us fans will follow. Hey you can even run it in the same slot as CBS’s new “Supergirl” and give intelligent people something to watch. In any case thanks for the shows you did,… Read more »
please give season five 23 episodes and keep the series going!
Please do not cancel my show. I will watch on anther channel. I love this show.
I have liked the show “Person of Interest” and had not heard about what was happening or going to happen with the show. I don’t know how long the show “should run”, but in the very least, the show should have a “wrap up” and finale. I also liked the Mentalist and knew that it was “winding down”. I have had no sense of that from “Person of Interest”. I hope in the very least, there is a Season 5 if not beyond. And, the question about what happened to “Shaw” needs to be resolved!!
How can shows like The Simpsons last for years when quality shows like POI get cancelled?
Because the producers have the mentality of Homer Simpson
ya go figure
You have got to be kidding. The star kicks butt and takes numbers later. I love this show. Please don’t cancel my show!! I remember the same thing
happening to the “Equalizer.” What a shame.
Do not Cancel !! will watch in another channel if need be
Yes, I would watch Person of Interest on another channel; please don’t cancel the show!
We have watched POI since the beginning, very disappointed that there is a chance of cancellation! There sooo many terrible shows that we are subjected to watch why would this show even be considered for cancellation?
No do not cancel.
