NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
I vote for a second season too!!! AWESOME!
Sorry, I thought the series was a crashing bore. And they didn’t give us the answers they promised at the end. I’m sorry I wasted my time on it.
Yes — Please please please! So many questions were left unanswered. A miniseries would have been acceptable had the show done what its promotions promised — revealed all by the end of the summer. I am addicted to this show and feel cheated without a second seasion. I hope it continues. Otherwise, why did I waste my time on the first series?
YES YES YES LEVEL 2
I really enojyed this show and knew when I went into it that is was a mini series, or at least that is the way they were advertising it. The big slogan all summer long was “by the end of Summer all will be revealed”, and I feel that this was not true at all. I have so many more questions now than I did at the start of the series. I would love to see it come back and show us more of level 2 and what the progam is exaclty. How did these people get involved, how to… Read more »
YESSSS!!!! A second season definitely.
This show TRAGICALLY aired at a bad time. The same thing happened to The 4400, another great show that aired in the summer and ended just when the story was really compelling.
I love the villains in this series, the idea of being watched everywhere they go, it’s something that we all fear. The characters are great, the subplots are great. This show has amazing potential to go on. You really owe it to your viewers after the ending we just saw! You can’t leave us hanging like that!!!
There’s gotta be a second season, it’d be very stupid if there wasn’t. Come on, level 2?
A second season is needed.
Very cool show. I am hoping for a second season!
Absolutely LOVED this show!!! Please NBC-give us a season 2!!! It was unusual, but it’s TV- gotta have some shows that are not reality shows for those of us that can’t stand watching people who will do anything to get their 5 minutes of fame. There are so many unanswered questions, please please please bring it back!!!!!! Many people love it and is it really hurting putting it on Saturday nights? I have to know what happens with everyone and what Level 2 is and what about when tori finds out her dad is being held hostage in a cage…… Read more »

This show never had a chance. It aired over the summer when most shows play reruns for a reason. It was a great show and I’m hoping the DVD does well enough for them to realize it didn’t get a fair shot. Even Stephen King is raving about it!
