NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
I just finished watching the season (series?) finale and wanted to put my vote in to have it come back. I loved it – thought it was an excellent show. I looked forward to each and every episode and was satisfied by the ending…of the season I hope.
I hope you give it another chance to increase its ratings. I for one would watch. Those I’ve spoken to about this show would give it chance as well.
Quite frankly, I’m VERY ANGRY that the series ended incomplete for me. The finale was missing sooo many answers to far too many questions. Now there’s talk that NBC is pulling the show?! Why bother ending the series that way(assuming there’s a season 2) when you knew full well that the show was going to be canned? I’m very angry and distrought from all of this! I don’t know who did the series Harper’s Island. But in that show, it WAS a mini series!!! The show Prison Break on Fox was a mini series, then turned into seasons. However, once… Read more »
I have loved Persons Unknown and would love to see more of it. Maybe looking into the Mansfield Institute.
I really liked the show, but there are too many people out there who can’t follow these kind of shows. It is unfortunate. I would like to see what season two would be like. Maybe they will have a shortage of shows next summer and decide to throw us another mini-series.
Persons Unknown will hopefully be brought back for a second season cause there were a lot of questions left unanswered, and while i don’t always need things to be tied up with a neat, easily understood ending, it would be worth exploring where level two goes, what happens to cat, and what happens with renbe and joe. the show is a good diversion and kept me hanging on throughout the summer. could be a cool recurring summer series. hopefully if nbc lets it go, another channel would pick it up. SyFy perhaps?
I never watched NBC before “Persons Unkown” was on air. PLEASE bring this back for another season…I love this show! I think it is a great contast to the others, which we all get so tired of. I know I am just one individual; however, like I said previously please consider bringing this show back!!
Sincerely,
Avid watcher/fan
please air another season of persons unknown.
if all my questions were answered by the finale i wouldn’t have a problem with just the 13 episodes; however myself and many others feel we now have more unanswered questions than we had at the beginning.
I for one would love to see this show continue. I loved the chemistry between Janet and Joe and now the husband is involved, so that makes for great TV. But just PLEASE, do not do what was done with Lost and leave more questions at the end. I would like for once to feel some closure at the end of a series! So tie up all the loose ends before you cancel a show, but leave this one going of course! 😉
NBC,
“All will be revealed?”
If the writers feel that there was a beginning, middle, and END, they are mistaken. There are so many questions. Check out the furious comments on the persons unknown website that appeared immediately after the “finale” ended Saturday night.
Please, NBC or some other network, bring Persons Unknown back and reveal answers.
Thank you.
I will NOT watch this series for a possible second season..this was supposed to be the Series Finale!
Persons Unknown is the only show that I faithfully follow each week, please continue this series!
Definitely renew this one! It’s not finished. Must see more!
NBC does not know a good when they see it. Changing days and times does not give the viewer a chance to know exactly when the show is to air. Shame on ABC in their poorly running of programs that do so well in the public eye. If the public is not having to search all over for a series such as Persons unknown, the rating s could had been better.
Omg, I love this show! It better go on! The questions were definitely not all answered (and some probably never will be, just like in Lost).
This was a great show. They definitely need to continue it. I think I would prefer if another network picked it up next time. NBC did not promote it properly and mishandled the programming of this series. Anyone else would do a better job resulting in higher ratings. Please make season two!!!!!
