NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
I Thought that this show was really interesting! I would love for them to come out with a second season and answer all the new questions I have! Yes they did give us viewers some insight into the program, but didnt answer everything! I guess I just dont understand how they can go from wanting to kill Janets husband to putting him into the town himself??? So confusing! And they never gave us any real answers as to what they were going to do with Joe! And I really hate the fact that all of the people who escaped got… Read more »
I would love to see a season two! There was so much they left unanswered!!
I rlly want a second season real badly i wanna c how level 2 ends up bein nd where her daughter is nd if the koopers ever get to c eachother again nd i want another season nd it didnt answer everything that is not a satisfying ending I WANT ANOTHER SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i found the last episdoe brilliant and disappointing at the same time, the fact that they went back, and that the guy who took janet to her hotel room, and he didn’t guard outside or anything is a little unrealistic, but it is still one of my favourites, and i really do HOPE that there will be a series 2 some time soon!
Great? The series was great until the end. NBC promised again and again that all would be revealed, but it was not. We have no idea who the program really is, or what they’re trying to do or why.
We have no idea where Kat and the ambassador are. We have no idea why the director is friends with Janet’s mother.
This was an utter failure of a series by NBC and they should be ashamed. Someone should sue them for false advertising.
I really like Persons Unknown! Its is my favorite show and if they don’t make anymore I will be really disapointed!
“Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.”
THEY LIED!
They didn’t answer anything and it was NOT satisfying (way worse than Lost)
This was just poor writing pretending to be “character driven.” Who is it that thinks we, the viewers, want stupid unexplained, mysterious, unending plots… but with REALLY INTERESTING CHARACTERS?!?!?
I pity the person who unknowingly buys the DVD — Don’t buy…
That was not an ending! That was a teaser for more show. I thought I’d missed something. Good show, give it a night, advertise it and let it run again. We deserve a real ending.
i agree, now you start level two… wouldnt that mean a second season?? If they dont want to make a second season they should at least write a book series based on it
I was a Lost addict who tried everything available to curb my cravings for mystery, suspense and a little sci-fi. Persons Unknown peaked my interest right from the start and every episode got better. I don’t understand why the ratings were so low. It has great actors and an even greater storyline. Please don’t take it away for good. There must be a second season!!
I LOVED Persons Unknown. Its the only show I looked forward to all summer. I really really hope there are 10 more seasons!
I guess the authors revealed a lot more in the last two episode of the show as they showed it, but I also would like to see a second season of it.
@Monica
The character with the long hair is played by Roberd Picard which has played in several movies and series the last years. I think his most popular role was in Startrek Voyager.

I agree with Lori Peters. The season finale was a disappointment. Through out the duration of the show, NBC kept saying “questions will be answered in the next episode” or “all of the questions will be answered by the end.” Um, not so.The only questions definitively answered were that Tori is alive, and Janet’s mom had something to do with her kidnapping. I have so many more questions now than I originally did. Not to mention, the show built up a lot of tension around the idea of the captives successfully escaping, but in the finale they were somehow all… Read more »
When ABC’s “Lost” came to an end, I was going through withdrawal from my favorite TV program. So, when “Persons Unknown” was offered as a mini-series for the summer, I jumped on board. It took a couple of episodes to reel me in but, you definitely caught me. I’ve really enjoyed it but, I was taken aback because it had been offered to us as a mini-series where “all will be revealed at the end”. As you know, all was not revealed but, I’m fascinated to know what comes next and I’m hoping that ABC will take a chance on… Read more »
The first season of Persons Unknown was fantastic!!! NBC needs to air a second season to answer the questions that are still left. If they do, they need to leave it the way it is. No retooling.
I was just getting into the characters, the good AND
bad guys, writing was improving, and the plot was escalating. Some good acting. Please bring this one back for a second season! SUSAN
I’d love to watch season 2!
