TNT has decided not to renew their Proof TV show for a second season. The life-after-death drama has been cancelled after one short season of 10 episodes.
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) lost her son, saw her marriage end, and became estranged to her teenage daughter. Looking for purpose, Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
Debuting in June, Proof got off to a slow start with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. The numbers didn’t get better as the weeks progressed and were often worse. The season ended up averaging a 0.31 in the demo with 2.12 million viewers. It was one of the lowest-rated scripted shows on the cable channel.
What do you think? Did you like the Proof TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?
I hope everyone’s comments get forwarded to TNT.
Loved the show and everyone in it. Great writing, Thought provoking. I was happy to pay 1.99 for each episode via Amazon and would have gladly paid for season 2. Really- you can’t make enough money this way and from TNT revenues? Hard to see how it would lose you money to continue. I hope you will come up with a better distribution plan and reconsider. What a waste of talent to stop now!
Really TNT? You had a really interesting, thought provoking story line that was really developing, and it didn’t catch on enough for you in 10 episodes, so you cancel it? Actors always have to deal with business people, not artists, making decisions on art. This is a great example. What a shame. I’m with Jennifer, who commented before, let’s all reach out to Netflix to take this ball and run with it!
I couldn’t agree more. I love Jennifer because I am old enough to remember Flashdance. The fact that this show had a unique storyline with no supernatural creatures really had me hoping this one would stick!
i wonder if you will renew playing house. I MEAN WHAT WILL YOU FIND WRONG WITH IT. NO VIOLENCE CLEAN CUT MAKES SENSE OOPS THAT’S IT. YOU ARE IDIOTS. AND ALL OF US THAT BEG, AND POUR OUR HEARTS OUT FOR PROOF ARE BIGGER IDIOTS. WE ARE SO BORED THIS IS WHAT WE DO. WRITE TO NOBODY AND WE BEG LIKE DOGS. WELL THAT’S THE END FOR ME. I AM NOT MAKING ANY MONEY FROM TNT UNLESS THEY WANT TO HELP ME OUT OF FINANCIAL PROBLEMS. SEE, WATCHING TV CALMS SOME OF US DOWN BUT HEY WHEN YOU HAVE MONEY… Read more »
My husband and I were waiting for the second season of Proof to start – we couldn’t wait to watch it each week. We thought it was a winner, and are bummed that it has been cancelled.
No season 2 because the leaders at TNT have no faith in anything that has spiritual inclinations. Just proves those same leaders wouldn’t know a possibly great show if it bit them in the rear end
i agree ..this show was great…it gave hope and i believe that the “higher ups” only see whats in front of their faces..very disappointed ….
Everyone should write a letter to Netflix and ask them to pick Proof up for season 2. They are the only network these days that actually produces good shows, and they are winning.
What a shame. This was a great show. Why do the networks cancel the good ones and leave the trash on?
So disappointed that Proof was canceled. Considering all of the junk on TV, this is really unbelievable.
TO REBECCA SO TRUE HOWEVER WE ARE WASTING OUR TIME
wow i was looking for a second season.. 🙁
Damn. i’ve been waiting with a lot of anticpation for season 2. I liked it so much I find it
hard to beleive that the ratings were so low. Maybe people are too scared of the subject. too bad.
I can’t believe this show was canceled. I was just checking to see when season 2 would start. I don’t watch much TV because I hate reality shows, and most of the other shows don’t hold my interest. I loved this show!! Really disappointed.
I cannot believe this show was cancelled. What is wrong with this network believing that everyone wishes to view Reality, violent and sexually themed shows? No wonder this society as a whole is in serious trouble.
Really bummed that this show was cancelled; I was looking forward to season two. The story was just developing, getting more and more intricate, and in my opinion it stood out from other TV shows in that its content was so heavily thought-provoking. I guess I need to go back to spending all my free time reading if I want to enjoy anything with true meaning. I’m really disappointed with TNT.
