FOX has officially cancelled the Rake TV series. The news comes as no surprise and leaves the dark comedy with one episode unaired.
Rake follows a lawyer (Greg Kinnear) who tries to do good but just can’t seem to get beyond his numerous addictions that cause him so much trouble. The cast also includes John Ortiz, Necar Zadegan, Bojana Novakovic, David Harbour, Tara Summers, Miranda Otto, and Ian Colletti.
The show got off to a poor start on Thursday, January 23rd, and the ratings dropped lower in subsequent weeks. After seven episodes, the network sent the series to Friday night where the ratings got much worse — even by Friday night standards. FOX aired two more installments on a Saturday night and has yet to release the final episode.
What do you think? Do you think this show sould have been cancelled? Are you sorry that there won’t be a second season of Rake?
I think it sucks that it got cancelled. It is one of my favorite shows. #BringBackRake
any way to petition to get Rake on again or on another network??
I think it really sucks they cancelled it after one season! It was a great show and Greg Kinnear was the best!! Love him as an actor no matter what he does! I really hope another network picks it up; bad move Fox!! They didn’t even give it a chance! Very disappointed!!
Really liked the writing and acting on this show. From the beginning, however, I didn’t care for the scheduling decisions Fox made on behalf of this show. Loved the line in the cannibal episode, where the wife of the cannibal says, “He said it was chicken.” What a riot. To bad they didn’t give this show a level playing field in order to build an audience.
The show was to good for Fox t.v. Rake was a good show !!!
loved this show, it was too clever for the audience after “Idol”. Kinnear is great, but not the big draw I suppose. Still a shame to cancel it. Wanted one more season.
Loved the show…The writing was excellent….Fox entertainment screws the pooch AGAIN !
Liked the show and cast. They didn’t give it a chance. Moving it to different days didn’t help. Hope another channel picks it up or under utilized Greg Kinnear should be picked up on another show. He is one of my favorites.
This was a great way to de-stress the corny off the wall comments and overtones had me and my co horts climbing the walls and howling with laughter.. To Bad, I assume it was not PC. Fox has missed the mark by cancelling both Rake and Surviving Jake. Maybe someone who gets Nomal will realize people want to laugh and not be reminded of social etiquette. Fox appears to be going down a rabbit hole.
This show never clicked with me.
I LOVE the show and it is funny but not a stupid funny. I don’t think it was given a chance. Shows get canceled if they don’t rate high the first couple of times they show. I see plently of repeat spots it can be put in and maybe people will catch on to it. I don’t get what other people are wat5hing. My husband and I will miss it. So this show is being replaced by a repeat – and who is going to watch that???
I’m with Robbie on this one. Every new Fox show I watch (Justice, Human Target, Katrinaville, Rake) gets canceled early. I guess I must not be in their demo.
I liked the US version of Rake better than the Aussie version. It might have fared better with a better time slot because being matched alongside the CBS comedy shows was a kiss of death.
It was not a bad show, though not a great one but Kinnear was good and it was a different type of show.
I must be jinxed, every new show I watch, every year, gets cancelled. WFT!
This news really doesn’t come as a surprise to me seeing as how the airing of the last few episodes went. I think that in itself was a statement from FOX that the show was gone, no hope for pity from the network. I absolutely adored the Australian version and I watched the US version but it never did seem to give me the feeling the Aussie version did. I didn’t love our flawed hero in the US version as much as I did Richard Roxburgh’s Cleaver Greene. So much of the charm that Cleaver Greene has was lost in… Read more »
BAD choice, Fox. You guys had a real gem with this show and you ruined it with lack of publicity and moving it around. It never had a chance. You should be ashamed. I truly hope another Network picks it up and gives it the attention it deserves to become a real success.
I loved the show and really enjoyed it. Why didn’t they give it more of a chance? They had a great show there and they let it go way TOO soon! Will miss it, suezq
