TV show description:
A legal drama, based on an Australian series of the same name, this show follows the comedic and chaotic life of a criminal defense lawyer. Keegan Deane (Greg Kinnear) is often described as many things but none of them are very flattering.
Brilliant and frustratingly charming, Keegan is one of life’s great addicts. His staggering lack of discretion and inability to self-censor land him the cases that nobody else will touch. Behind that lies a resolute optimism and belief in justice that fuel his dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.
He always tries to do the right thing, but at the same time struggles to save himself from the many self-destructive elements that plague his own life, such as his overindulgence in women, gambling and other excesses.
Keegan gets a majority of his cases from his best friend since law school, Ben Leon (John Ortiz). Ben’s married to Scarlet (Necar Zadegan), another of Keegan’s old friends. She’s an Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney and quite often Keegan’s opponent in court.
Keegan also has plenty of personal trials and tribulations, including his mounting debt to his bookie and his overlapping liaisons with various women. Melissa “Mikki” Partridge (Bojana Novakovic) is his favorite prostitute and de-facto love interest.
And then there’s his ongoing battle with the IRS. He’s being prosecuted by David Potter (David Harbour), an IRS tax attorney. He looks ten years younger than his age and has been nicknamed “Harry Potter” by Keegan.
Thankfully Keegan has Leanne Zander (Tara Summers), his no-nonsense assistant, to help clean up his messes. His ex-wife, psychologist Maddy (Miranda Otto), begrudgingly acts as his therapist. She’s also the mother of their hormonal son, Finn (Ian Colletti), who displays many of the same tendencies as his father.
Episode #13 — “Man’s Best Friend”
Keegan defends a close friend and well-respected doctor accused of animal cruelty, Scarlet’s campaign against David Potter takes a nasty turn when information about Mikki’s past gets leaked to the press and Ben gets tied up in a federal investigation when his firm’s finances are questioned.
First aired: April 5, 2014
What do you think? Do you like the Rake TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
I love this show and CANNOT believe that Fox is canceling this show!! I decided to give Fox one more chance after they blindly cancelled the Firefly series years ago and I am guessing that the same executives are doing it again to this GREAT show. Shame on you Fox for not seeing you have true potential here with Rake.
Absolutely loved this program. Kept watching the schedule for next episode. This probably had four good years to go. The twists, comedy, and personal stories of characters were engaging and could compare to other good lawyer shows like Ally and Boston Legal.
Awesome show. Brilliant writing. A must keep
Plz plz plz back it back. I wanna see what happen next. Get hooked on a show and it’s gone. Don’t the know people record and watch later.
Keep RAKE!! It was funny and novel. Not same formula conedy drama.
Please keep it. I love this show. It was so different than all the other shows which are pretty much the same, that’s what made it so good. I looked forward to Rake every week.
KEEP THIS GREAT SHOW!
What, it’s cancelled.. geez the one show I watch on Fox and they cancel it. stupid Fox.
I am crying that it is cancelled. I loved the show.
The show was brilliant because of its kinky vulnerable craziness but as Fox couldn’t figure out what day or time it wanted to run the show it made it impossible to get a following and this follower was constantly looking for it in the TV listings.
Keep the show! Its a very good one!!
NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!! It’s the only show on TV my husband and I both like!
Keep it, great show.
Keep it.
Loved this show. I’m not a big tv buff, but I enjoyed this show. Bring it back!
