TV show description:
A legal drama, based on an Australian series of the same name, this show follows the comedic and chaotic life of a criminal defense lawyer. Keegan Deane (Greg Kinnear) is often described as many things but none of them are very flattering.
Brilliant and frustratingly charming, Keegan is one of life’s great addicts. His staggering lack of discretion and inability to self-censor land him the cases that nobody else will touch. Behind that lies a resolute optimism and belief in justice that fuel his dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.
He always tries to do the right thing, but at the same time struggles to save himself from the many self-destructive elements that plague his own life, such as his overindulgence in women, gambling and other excesses.
Keegan gets a majority of his cases from his best friend since law school, Ben Leon (John Ortiz). Ben’s married to Scarlet (Necar Zadegan), another of Keegan’s old friends. She’s an Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney and quite often Keegan’s opponent in court.
Keegan also has plenty of personal trials and tribulations, including his mounting debt to his bookie and his overlapping liaisons with various women. Melissa “Mikki” Partridge (Bojana Novakovic) is his favorite prostitute and de-facto love interest.
And then there’s his ongoing battle with the IRS. He’s being prosecuted by David Potter (David Harbour), an IRS tax attorney. He looks ten years younger than his age and has been nicknamed “Harry Potter” by Keegan.
Thankfully Keegan has Leanne Zander (Tara Summers), his no-nonsense assistant, to help clean up his messes. His ex-wife, psychologist Maddy (Miranda Otto), begrudgingly acts as his therapist. She’s also the mother of their hormonal son, Finn (Ian Colletti), who displays many of the same tendencies as his father.
Episode #13 — “Man’s Best Friend”
Keegan defends a close friend and well-respected doctor accused of animal cruelty, Scarlet’s campaign against David Potter takes a nasty turn when information about Mikki’s past gets leaked to the press and Ben gets tied up in a federal investigation when his firm’s finances are questioned.
First aired: April 5, 2014
What do you think? Do you like the Rake TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
Love it. Please renew.
Of all the shows that should be cancelled – why choose Rake! It must be renewed!!
I love this show! greg kinear is amazing! please don’t ax it!!!
Please renew “Rake” —very entertaining show enjoyed by all generations in our household.
This is absolutely a great show. Best on TV at this time. Hope it keeps playing! !
Best show on TV. Looked forward each week to watching Rake and was so disappointed it was cancelled. Greg kinnear is masterful as Keegan and I would absolutely bring this back. Hilarious!!
Love this show. PLEASE renew!!!!!!
Why was there a rerun on this past Friday the 27th??
The show which aired on 6/27 was actually the unseen episode 6, which had not been aired after episode 5 as it should have been.
I really loved this show. The cast was awesome and the stories were different and usually very amusing. I was very sad to see it go but did realize I missed an episode so I was happy to see the missing show last night. Now we just need season 2. How many crappy reality shows can we have????
If they won’t renew it on FOX, how about putting it on FX? This is a great show. FOX needs to be bombarded with requests for a season 2.
It wasn’t a rerun. It was the last unaired episode. The network ran them out of order.
Rake is a funny, irreverent, well done show. Please reconsider cancelling it!
Renew all jokes aside please renew
With all the questionable TV shows that are on the air now, I can’t believe that this one was canceled. I am 68 years old and loved Rake. I have no idea why Fox would have canceled it. Please bring it back.
this is a great show and the decision to cancel it is very hard to believe. The show needed some advertising to get more viewers engaged. just sad to see this one go too soon
Love the tv show, different kind of comedy/drama, Please renew.
Love this show. Sorry to see it go!
Rake is the best. Renew it!!
