TV show description:
A legal drama, based on an Australian series of the same name, this show follows the comedic and chaotic life of a criminal defense lawyer. Keegan Deane (Greg Kinnear) is often described as many things but none of them are very flattering.
Brilliant and frustratingly charming, Keegan is one of life’s great addicts. His staggering lack of discretion and inability to self-censor land him the cases that nobody else will touch. Behind that lies a resolute optimism and belief in justice that fuel his dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.
He always tries to do the right thing, but at the same time struggles to save himself from the many self-destructive elements that plague his own life, such as his overindulgence in women, gambling and other excesses.
Keegan gets a majority of his cases from his best friend since law school, Ben Leon (John Ortiz). Ben’s married to Scarlet (Necar Zadegan), another of Keegan’s old friends. She’s an Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney and quite often Keegan’s opponent in court.
Keegan also has plenty of personal trials and tribulations, including his mounting debt to his bookie and his overlapping liaisons with various women. Melissa “Mikki” Partridge (Bojana Novakovic) is his favorite prostitute and de-facto love interest.
And then there’s his ongoing battle with the IRS. He’s being prosecuted by David Potter (David Harbour), an IRS tax attorney. He looks ten years younger than his age and has been nicknamed “Harry Potter” by Keegan.
Thankfully Keegan has Leanne Zander (Tara Summers), his no-nonsense assistant, to help clean up his messes. His ex-wife, psychologist Maddy (Miranda Otto), begrudgingly acts as his therapist. She’s also the mother of their hormonal son, Finn (Ian Colletti), who displays many of the same tendencies as his father.
Episode #13 — “Man’s Best Friend”
Keegan defends a close friend and well-respected doctor accused of animal cruelty, Scarlet’s campaign against David Potter takes a nasty turn when information about Mikki’s past gets leaked to the press and Ben gets tied up in a federal investigation when his firm’s finances are questioned.
First aired: April 5, 2014
What do you think? Do you like the Rake TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
Rake is by far and away this 68 year old’s favorite show. It has everything you could want in a tv show. Mystery , scandal , sex, humor, and great story
Please do not throw this one out
Rake is my favorite. It should not be cancelled!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL. MY MOTHER AND MYSELF WATCHES EVERY FRIDAY. THANK YOU!
Love It Love It Love It
Love the show. Watched the Aussie version on netflix and enjoy it greatly but this one with Greg Kaennear is even better and more fun and he is the perfect flirt. Keep it coming. It the best dramedy on tv
GREAT SHOW! ONLY SHOW I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING EVERY WEEK. GIVE IT A CHANCE. FIRST OF ALL IT WAS ON THE SCHEDULE FOLLOWING AMERICAN IDOL WHICH ISN’T THE BIGGEST LEAD IN AUDIENCE ANYMORE. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL. I THINK THIS SHOW IS TO WITTY FOR THE NORMAL VIEWER.
One of the Best shows onT.V. Keep it on!
Rake is an excellent show and concept. Wiring is superb, as are the show’s legal experts/consultants who really understand what it is like to practice law on your own… Great show!!! Finally, a T.V. show that accurately displays the practice of law as done by real lawyers…as opposed to “Suits” and “The Good Wife” which presents a childish and unrealistic portrayal of life at so-called prestigious law firms. I have been a practicing trial lawyer for 39 years and find RAKE to be the only realistic lawyer show currently on T.V…Very similar to “The Lincoln Lawyer,” which was superb. I… Read more »
Excellent, well-written show that I am really in to. It makes me furious that all the class shows get cancelled and more and more crap shows such as reality shows keep coming. A few shows I really miss are HUMAN TARGET (AGENTS OF MARVEL is a poor, poor replacement), and Harry’s Law.
Please keep Rake. It’s the best show on TV.
Love it!!!! Fox please give it a chance. Remember shows like Cheers and Seinfeld that struggled for years!!! People need to get to know the characters, and it can’t always be done in a few episodes.
Love the show. Even with all his issues, Rake is a likable guy. I hope the show does not get canceled.
Wildly entertaining. This show needs to stay and have a chance to catch on. I think it has a potential to be a big success. TV exec’s should figure out how to sell this series. There has to be a smart one around somewhere?
Like the show. Hope it stays on the air.
I haven’t watched network television in years until now. Great story line, great acting. What’s not to like. I new the first time I saw Greg Kinnear some years ago, I knew he was the quirky, jerky, star to be. Don’t shut this show down
