The eighth season of the Regular Show premieres on Cartoon Network, Monday September 26th and now news has broken that it will be the last. Deadline has confirmed with Cartoon Network that Regular Show is ending. There is no ninth season in the offing, effectively leaving the Regular Show cancelled.
The Regular Show voice cast includes: Mark Hamill (Skips), Roger Craig Smith (Thomas), William Salyers (Rigby), Janie Haddad (Margaret), and Sam Marin (Benson, Pops, and Muscle Man). Creator JG Quintel voices Mordecai and Hi-Five Ghost.
Here is more, from Deadline:
“From JG’s original pitch on post-it notes, through eight successful seasons and more than 250 episodes produced, Regular Show has been one of the most original animated series of this generation creating indelible characters and signature comedy mayhem laced with heart,” said Cartoon Network chief content officer Rob Sorcher. “Our sincere thanks to this talented crew and cast for their incredible dedication, and I’m proud that they all agreed to go up in space together for one hilarious final journey.”
“Making Regular Show has been so much fun, added Quintel. “We got to tell all of the stories we wanted to tell, and making the choice to go out exactly how we want to go out. We’re so proud and excited for people to see how we’re wrapping things up in a big, big way. We’re bringing everything full circle.”
Here’s the Regular Show description from Cartoon Network:
The Emmy® Award winning Regular Show features best friends and groundskeepers, Mordecai (a six-foot-tall blue jay) and Rigby (a hyperactive raccoon) who spend their days trying to entertain themselves by any means necessary, much to the displeasure of Benson (their boss, who is a gumball machine) and to the delight of Pops (an older, lollipop-headed gentleman). Their everyday pursuits often lead to things spiraling out of control and into the surreal.
Originally developed as an animated short for Cartoon Network’s Cartoonstitute, Regular Show has been nominated and presented many prestigious awards. The series won a 2012 Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Short-format Animated Program for the episode “Eggscellent” and was also awarded the 2012 Ottawa Intl. Animation Festival Best Television Animation Made for Children. Recently Regular Show was nominated for three 2013 ASIFA-Hollywood Annie Awards for Character Design, Voice Acting and Writing.
