TV show description:
This dramatic series takes place in the 16th century and revolves around headstrong monarch Mary Stuart (Adelaide Kane), the teenager who will become known as Mary, Queen of Scots.
Arriving in France with four close friends — Greer (Celina Sinden), Kenna (Caitlin Stasey), Lola (Anna Popplewell) and Aylee (Jenessa Grant) — as her ladies-in-waiting, Mary has been sent to secure Scotland’s strategic alliance by formalizing her arranged engagement to the French king’s dashing son, Prince Francis (Toby Regbo).
But the match isn’t signed and sealed — it depends more on politics, religion and secret agendas than affairs of the heart. Prince Francis is intrigued by the fiery Scot. However, like most young men, he resists the idea of settling down into marriage. He has a history with a lady of the court and his own point of view on the wisdom of an alliance with Scotland. Still, an attraction between Mary and Francis is ignited.
Further complicating matters is Francis’ handsome and roguish half-brother, Bash (Torrance Coombs). He has a history of his own. Despite his illegitimate birth, Bash is his father’s favorite. Though he is all too aware that Francis is the heir to the throne and Mary’s intended, Bash soon develops his own feelings for Mary.
None of the intrigue at Court is lost on Francis’ mother, Queen Catherine (Megan Follows). The strong-willed Queen is aware of Mary’s inflammatory effect on her son and his half-brother. She’s also aware of the dalliances of her husband, King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) — with his mistress as well as other ladies of the Court.
For guidance, Queen Catherine turns to her trusted advisor, the seer Nostradamus. He terrifies the Queen with his prophecy that marriage to Mary will cost Francis his life. As a result, Catherine is determined to save her son, no matter how many others have to pay with their lives.
As Mary learns for herself that fierce foes are conspiring to sabotage her marriage to Francis (and also threaten her life), she becomes aware of other dark forces. There’s a mysterious presence in the castle; a shrouded figure who may become her unlikely ally.
To cope with the brutality of the times, villagers trust in magic and superstition. In the dark woods surrounding the French Court lurk those who offer human sacrifice to a being who seems to require blood.
With danger and sexual intrigue around every dark castle corner, Mary rallies her ladies-in-waiting and steels herself, ready to rule the new land and balance the demands of her country and her heart.
Episode #78 — All It Cost Her…
Mary makes a decision that will change the course of history — forever shaping the fate of her nation, her crown, and her newborn son. Mary’s perilous move for her survival causes the stunning realization that perhaps she is not the only one who may not survive. Meanwhile, Elizabeth steadies herself for war and will become the instigator in Mary’s demise while later realizing she and Mary might be more similar than either thought.
First aired: June 16, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like the Reign TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fifth season?
i really loved REIGN but im said they killed Mary off i thought Katherine may came to rescue her Katherine should have gotten that witch to kill queen Elizabeth she deserved it because she killed Mary best friend and she always wanted to compete against her even though Elizabeth could not have kids why leave queen Elizabeth alive Mary could have married her new bodyguard the watchman who really cared for her i did not like the ending but who knows if Katherine did not stop them from killing Mary i forgot king Charles could have saved mary. but the… Read more »
This is a true story! This is what really happen back then to Queen Mary! So, they had to end it how it all happen! I also loved the show but, I knew about them from school so, I knew most of it was going to happen before I even watched it…
I would love this series to continue – I recently started to watch it on Netflix and realize such it a GREAT series this is. I am so emersed with all that is happening and such good writing on behalf of keeping with the history. Heart-wrenching scenes and such great great acting. Please bring Season 5 to US and giving their high rating on Netflix I am sure you will have more loyal viewer as myself.
I really wish the show had continued for a 5th season. The cast was FANTASTIC and there was plenty of material to continue the story. Rarely has a show gripped me like this one did. I would like to have seen more of Toby Regbo, and loved that he was in the closing of the show. Heart-wrenching! Such a tender moment! Oh to be young and in love again!
Needs to be a season five. Everything seemed rushed. It leaves you wanting to know what else happened before leading up to Mary’s be heading. What happened to Knox did he end up being free and getting what he wanted? what about James? How did Elizabeth get Mary’s son? What happened to King Charles and his brother? Did Claud reunite with Luke? Did Mary ever see her son? How did Mary get to the tower? Did Elizabeth ever meet Mary? Was Bothwell executed at one? Etc… so much in between that leaves you disappointed it didn’t show any of it.
it most definitely should have been renewed another season. there was too much left unanswered, what happened to bothwell? why didnt marys brother james intervene on her behalf in the end? where is lolas son? francis brother? too, too many unanswered questions
Great show
I think it showed have been renewed
Love this show, please bring back. What happend to Lola’s son andFrancis half brother?
Please bring it back. I miss watching this great tv show
My favorite show will be missed. Please bring it back.
Loved this Series—-everything about it—the characters, the costumes and the story. Hate that it is over. Please renew this series–follow Mary’s Son and his Reign. Maybe with flashbacks, let us know what happened to the other characters in the series.
Story cut short and terrible short ending! Too bad.
I can’t explain my disappointment to learn the series has ended. Regin had all the elements of an outstanding series to hold your breath until the next week. I hope that the writers will find support to develop another historical figure/situation to write about this period of history. I would love if there could be a “comeback”!
I love the series. Interesting plots. It’s has every thing, love, romance, drama, comedy, battles. The setting and costumes are wonderful. And it looks like two real life marriages came about. I would love for Reign to continue.
Honestly I’m not sure I would want it to be brought back if Mary isn’t in it. I got terribly sick of Catherine, Henry, Charles story lines. It did end abruptly and left some open endings but none I was too terribly concerned with. The final montage of Mary’s life was beautiful and I think it should just be left at that. A great show. One I will rewatch until the end of time.
I loved this show!! The abrupt ending was terrible but the series has been such a great history lesson and sparked my interest in an era I never really thought about much before. Please bring it back!! I’m so disappointed it has been cancelled!
