Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas — all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.
Debuting on March 9th, Resurrection had a great launch with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.9 million total viewers. (Those numbers are about the same as this season’s How to Get Away with Murder’s debut.)
Unfortunately, Resurrection’s ratings dropped about 19% in week two and they kept falling nearly every week of the eight episode season. The seventh installment hit a low of a 1.9 rating with 7.85 million — half of the premiere’s demo rating.

Considering the poor luck that the alphabet network had last year launching new dramas, it wasn’t much of a surprise that ABC renewed Resurrection. They didn’t have much choice. However, the ratings slide was a terrible sign for the future.
Now, the show has been really struggling in season two. After a positive second season debut, the ratings quickly dropped, falling to new series lows week after week. The October 26th installment registered a mere 1.2 rating with 4.36 million.
ABC recently ordered full seasons and additional episodes of many of their new and older shows. It was a telling sign that the network is only producing 14 episodes of Resurrection this season.
Unless the ratings improve, it looks very likely that Resurrection will be cancelled by May. Hopefully, the writers will give viewers some degree of closure before the end.
What do you think? Did you stop watching Resurrection? Should it have been a mini-series? Is competition from The Walking Dead and football the cause of the low ratings? Do you think Resurrection should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
If resurrection wasnt placed on one network channel then another and if most people knew after watching series 1 that series 2 was on abc channel then the ratings probably would have been higher I only knew as I goggle and told me what channel was on me and my boyfriend watched series 1 then found out about series 2really eenjoyed and would love to see a series 3
Please keep the show on I really like it. I looked forward to Sunday to watch
the show.
Pleas keep the show on.
Thank You
Arlene
I love Resurrection! In my viewing area (the Pacific Northwest) the network, itself, did its level best to make continuity difficult by sidelining Resurrection at a drop of the hat! Sometimes two and even three weeks went by between episodes…OUCH!
The acting is excellent with first-rate cast members who absolutely make the impossible, possible and very believable. Hopefully the writing and directing can be brought back very soon with Season III of Resurrection centered in Arcadia with the core actors intact!
The premise of this show functions as a tool to explore the dynamics of a family and the ambiguities and distortions of family histories. Simultaneously it takes up the larger social issues of the impact on a community of the appearance of the outsider. Finally it examines the challenge to belief of new realities. A fascinating show which, over and against its sensational premise is developing a more subtle and complex vision. I am looking forward to more.
Please renew it! I think it has great potential for how the returned are part of society now.
I c an’t believe I wasted an hour of my time every Sunday night watching this program. After two seasons there were still far too many unanswered questions. The way season 2 ended I, as well as a few of my coworkers, who watched Resurrection were left baffled, confused and without any closure. What’s with those insects? How come some people returned and others did not? VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!
Love the show, the problem was lack of new shows in sequence without reruns. But the show is great tv!
I think Resurrection is a clean wholesome show, I get so tired of nasty shows with foul language and lack of clothes not to mention the sex. This show actually has twists and turns in their storylines. That is good enough for me to say #renewresurrection!
Keep it on looked forward to it very much every week. If need be change the day and time but keep it!
I agree!
This is the first show that kept me glued to the television set in a long time. They did do a great job of casting the actors for the parts they played. I loved the underlying love stories that were unfolding as well as the suspense. I hope ABC renews it for another season, even if it is short.
Renew it I love this show and I tape it every Sunday.I do think if it came on at a different time or day the rating would go up.
Renew it! I think the show is great.
Renew it I love it
I love this show – it’s beautifully produced, from the theme music , to the cinematography, to the casting, to the writing. I love how it takes its time to explore the complexity of life-death-life again in ways that are relatable to real-life uncertainties, fears, bigotries, joys and sorrows, and how it doesn’t stray into cheap sensationalizing, brutalizations or ‘horror’ — as the French version does. I hope ABC keeps this around at least long enough for us to discover the larger picture of what brought about the Returned in the first place.
I really like that “Resurrection” is interesting, entertaining, and a decent TV show — “decent” as in no improper conduct (sexual), no scanty clothing, no “bad words” (only occasionally, but not too bad), etc. — just a good show with which to be entertained.
I also really like all the actors and actresses — each one is very, very good! Great job for whomever selected them for the show.
Please continue the show and keep up the good work with it!
Regards,
Pat G.
