Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas — all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.
Debuting on March 9th, Resurrection had a great launch with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.9 million total viewers. (Those numbers are about the same as this season’s How to Get Away with Murder’s debut.)
Unfortunately, Resurrection’s ratings dropped about 19% in week two and they kept falling nearly every week of the eight episode season. The seventh installment hit a low of a 1.9 rating with 7.85 million — half of the premiere’s demo rating.

Considering the poor luck that the alphabet network had last year launching new dramas, it wasn’t much of a surprise that ABC renewed Resurrection. They didn’t have much choice. However, the ratings slide was a terrible sign for the future.
Now, the show has been really struggling in season two. After a positive second season debut, the ratings quickly dropped, falling to new series lows week after week. The October 26th installment registered a mere 1.2 rating with 4.36 million.
ABC recently ordered full seasons and additional episodes of many of their new and older shows. It was a telling sign that the network is only producing 14 episodes of Resurrection this season.
Unless the ratings improve, it looks very likely that Resurrection will be cancelled by May. Hopefully, the writers will give viewers some degree of closure before the end.

I concur with all the sentiments above. It’s one of my favorite shows. The storyline & characters are compelling & the acting is top-notch. At least 1 more season to bring it to a conclusion so fans have closure as to the storyline. I abhor when the networks don’t have any respect for their viewing audience & drop shows without closure. If your going to cancel at least give us a conclusion. You let us watch since the beginning then just leave us hanging.that’s rediculious to spend so much time watching for nothing

Resurrection is my favorite show!! I am not a fan of reality TV. Resurrection is great entertainment. Please please don’t cancel a great “non reality” program.

If anything try a different time slot but do not give up on this show it’s to good of a series. Please don’t let this happen
This is my favorite show it should not by any means be canceled I’m dying to see what happens in the 3rd season I recently watched A&E The Returned series and it is no comparison to Resurrection in my opinion Resurrection is written out so much better and every last one of the actors play their parts to a tee this show should definitely be renewed I’m doing what ever it takes to get resurrection back on sending letters to ABC and will continue to write positive comments to get this show back on this show is apart of our… Read more »

One of the few good programs on TV. Oh, but keep the trashy “reality” garbage on namely a certain family that has big a$$es. Those b****** need to be on numerous times. I guess trash sells & quality doesn’t. What a shame!!!!!!!!!!!
NO PLEASE it makes my Sunday nite with a good plot!! I am hoping it will come back soon to TV!!! Very interesting and not cops and robbers like the other stations have on…so sick of them!!

I really got into this show. I recently watched the season premier of “The Returned” on A&E, because I read that this show was based on the book. Funny thing….Resurrection was a million times better than “The Returned”. Better character building, more interesting story line and better acting. Please please don’t cancel this show! Try another time slot before you do….it will fare better! PLEASE!
I hope they move this show to another night or another time slot. I love this show too.
