Heralded as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, Ringer couldn’t hold onto its audience. The show’s been cancelled after one season and 22 episodes.
As Ringer begins, we meet Bridget (Gellar), a former stripper and recovering alcoholic who’s witnessed a murder and goes to stay with her estranged twin sister Siobhan (also Gellar). Her sister disappears so Bridget takes Siobhan’s place and soon realizes that her sister’s life was more complicated than her own. The TV series also features the talents of Nestor Carbonell, Ioan Gruffudd, Mike Colter, Tara Summers, Kristoffer Polaha, Zoey Deutch, Justin Bruening, Billy Miller, Jason Dohring, Nicole Anderson, and Gage Golightly.
Considering the amount of promotion that The CW put behind it, Ringer’s premiere had to viewed as a bit of a disappointment. It registered a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.84 million total viewers.

In week two, the demo dropped a whopping 25% to a 0.9 rating with 1.94 million. Week thee remained stable but week four plunged 33%.
Over the course of the season, the ratings fluctuated but also dwindled downward. They fell as low as a 0.4 rating (several times) with as few as 1.05 million viewers.
With very few hours of primetime real estate to fill, it just didn’t make sense for The CW to renew Ringer for a second season. They’ve cancelled the show and the last episode aired on April 17th. Since it wasn’t expected to be a series finale, several storylines were left up in the air.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Ringer has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two? Why do you think the ratings declined? Was it too hard to follow or just not interesting enough?

I am very disappointed too, I am in the over 65 demographics and as far as I am concerned it was one of the best shows on TV but I agree with a previous comment, it was on a network that caterers to teenagers and it is definitely a more mature audience program. Maybe it should be sold to a different network which caterers to all demographics.
I LOVED THIS SHOW!!! My husband and I waited forever for the season to start and we enjoyed watching Sarah Michelle Gellar and the drama each week. The one thing I did not understand was why the producers would air the show during the same time as Dancing with the Stars….I would always Ringer and then I would dvr DWTS and watch that at a later time. Perhaps it was a bad time slot, if they had the show on Wednesday nights it would have gotten more stable and consistent viewers. I so hope that they will bring the show… Read more »
Sooooo sad!! 🙁
very upset. this was one of the best shows. was very excited to see what a new season would bring next. CW was not consistent at all with the placement of the show. i do believe it is a show for a more mature audience (it is placed around a bunch of shows teenager’s watch). wish another network would pick it up.
I watched this show because I have always enjoyed stories about twins and swapping places. It was a bit contrived at first in terms of how it got started; but once I accepted Bridget’s successful takeover of her sister’s life, I thought it was great entertainment. There were lots of interesting subplots and twists, and I looked forward to it every week. I thought that mostly the story lines were great, and all the actors did very well. Yes at times it was hard to follow, but you could always keep track of the main story lines. With the likelihood… Read more »
I’m pissed!!!!! i loved that show!!!!!!!
Oh no!!!!! This is horrible news! The season finale was so great! I was so excited for next season . I’m very very disappointed. 🙁
Very upset!! Loved ringer and want it back!!
lOOOOOOVED this show, they need to give shows a chance to catch on with people. It was such a good story, wish there was a way to bring it back, great cast!!
This just sucks! This was the only show I watched live instead of on DVR because I loved it so much. The least they could do is give us a finale, don’t rope us in to love a show with no closure. My Name is Earl went off the air 3 years ago and I’m still pissed how it ended with not giving a thought to the viewers, and I didn’t even love that show the way I love Ringer, so I will hold a grudge for a very long time. Hell, I don’t care if you just write a… Read more »
so angry!!!! i loved ringer!!!
This sucks. Ringer was one of the best new shows out there, and I don’t really even like tv, but this was good. The problem with this show was I never knew when it was going to be on. It was so sparatic. But it was an actual really good show. Ugh. Now there will be even less to watch.
I was an avid follower of Ringer. Bring it back, please. Just wondering if when you look at those numbers do you count the many busy viewers, like myself who record their favorite shows. Ringer being on top of that list for its smart, quick paced writing talent. Always left the viewer interested in what the next episode would bring. Will you replace Ringer with another mindless reality show? If yes, then I guess the book clubs and I will become even better friends. Very disappointed in your cancellation choice.
RINGER is an excellent show and should not have been cancelled . Sure it was difficult to follow but so was LOST . What the network did with LOST is have recap shows to explain events and remind viewers what has happened so far . The same could have been done with RINGER and as time went on , the viewership would have increased . CW has lost a lot of respect with people like myself who believe that the more mindless a show is , the more chance it has of success . The lack of quality in the… Read more »
