Heralded as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, Ringer couldn’t hold onto its audience. The show’s been cancelled after one season and 22 episodes.
As Ringer begins, we meet Bridget (Gellar), a former stripper and recovering alcoholic who’s witnessed a murder and goes to stay with her estranged twin sister Siobhan (also Gellar). Her sister disappears so Bridget takes Siobhan’s place and soon realizes that her sister’s life was more complicated than her own. The TV series also features the talents of Nestor Carbonell, Ioan Gruffudd, Mike Colter, Tara Summers, Kristoffer Polaha, Zoey Deutch, Justin Bruening, Billy Miller, Jason Dohring, Nicole Anderson, and Gage Golightly.
Considering the amount of promotion that The CW put behind it, Ringer’s premiere had to viewed as a bit of a disappointment. It registered a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.84 million total viewers.

In week two, the demo dropped a whopping 25% to a 0.9 rating with 1.94 million. Week thee remained stable but week four plunged 33%.
Over the course of the season, the ratings fluctuated but also dwindled downward. They fell as low as a 0.4 rating (several times) with as few as 1.05 million viewers.
With very few hours of primetime real estate to fill, it just didn’t make sense for The CW to renew Ringer for a second season. They’ve cancelled the show and the last episode aired on April 17th. Since it wasn’t expected to be a series finale, several storylines were left up in the air.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Ringer has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two? Why do you think the ratings declined? Was it too hard to follow or just not interesting enough?

HOW COULD THEY DO THIS?! This was my favorite show and they left the story unfinished. I would have loved to see season 2 happen. I dont think I’m going to be watching the CW anymore, Ringer was the only reason I tuned in.
NO… Not Ringer…. My husband and I love this show. We are in are 60’s and have loved this every week. In protest of it being cancelled we will not watch ANYTHING on that TV station again. We think Ringer should also move to a different TV station as well. We loved Sarah Michelle and Ioan Gruffudd they are magic together.
I got hooked on this show, very edge of your seat. I am so sad.
I hope they will do a series finale episode, for all of us who faithfully
followed the series. I am a huge SMG fan. So sad.
I don’t know why all the good shows are getting the ax! GCB and now Ringer! If they don’t change their mind and renew them I’m not going to watch any shows on their stations! I hate it when you find a show you like and only get one season! That sucks!
I think the show was GREAT and am really disappointed it won’t get a second season. Some shows like this need that second season to become a hit. There used to be some network support in good shows. M.A.S.H. didn’t do well it’s first season but back then the network heads believed enough in it to make a few adjustments and look how that worked out! I believe the premise was original, acting was great and writing well done. I see this as being a failure of not having that second season, being on the CW in itself is a… Read more »
They can not do this to me… i need this show
This show would have succeeded on HBO or Showtime.
I always thought Ringer was on the wrong station. The cast of grown ups is something different for a CW show, and I don’t think its younger audience could connect with them.
exactly. i agree.
Unfortunately, the show had great potential but also had some problems. If you go onto Ringer message boards, you can see issues that fans (and potential fans) had with the way it was “put together”. Most of the complaints are few and consistent with most fans–too many twists (inundated with them), plotholes/inconsistencies, dislikable characters (you need to like them enough to care about them even with the villains–remember Ben from Lost?). I watched the whole season because I am an SMG fan and hoped I would be able to get into it but couldn’t–not enough anyway. It would be great… Read more »
They seriously need to give it a season/series finale. I didn’t really see it playing out for a bunch more seasons–how many more people can want to kill Bridget/Siobhan?–but there was no ending to it at all. 3 more episodes, CW, that’s all I’m asking for!
CW was the wrong network for “Ringer”, period! Had it been on FOX or ABC, we would be eagerly awaiting season two right now! What a shame, another great show falls! I absolutely loved this series – everything about it was well-done, thoughtful, and creative! Network execs must be having labotomies for for lunch rather than food! I, for one, am just tired of losing shows that I’ve really gotten into, for no reason other than the people who watched it being ignored and not counted in the antiquated and archaic Neilson ratings system! Not to mention, the list of… Read more »
Samara: You near make a point I had on my mind in my initial post and forgot to mention…network execs! How invested are audiences going to allow themselves to be in new shows today when shows aren’t allowed to find an audience? Major shows, due to a poor original time slot, near got cancelled except when in reruns over the Summer they scored in a better time slot and were renewed to go on to 5+ seasons of success. So when it all comes down to numbers I think more fans are likely to try a new show when allowed… Read more »
I’m pissed, love the show, love sarah michelle gellar!!!! Hope another network picks it up, since the CW is dumb! Ohhh and if the CW reads these comments…. I follow you on facebook, but yet people in Canada can’t look at any videos on your website… get with it, we watch the shows just the same, why can’t we partake in what you offer on you website….b/s
I’m Desperate!! They can’t just cancel it and leave us anxious and eagerly waiting for an actual finale…they should have aired at least 15 episodes more to conclude the plot and leave us sad but at least relieved from regret….
Very sad that ringer is ending my husband and i watched it every time it came on and we were looking forward to it coming on for 2nd season! I hope/wish this is just a rumor!!
Not scheduling Ringer during December and January was very poor judgment on somebody’s part for this show! Right when the audience could have been building momentum in numbers/popularity with its viewers,…ZAP! It’s gone for two months!!!!!!! What OTHER brand-new show got treated like THAT,huh???? Fair treatment? I don’t think so.
I don’t get what that’s about when a new show goes a month…even a couple weeks….with either re-runs or just nothing. They did that with Revenge as well….though I’m sure that will get a second season yet Ringer I think is a stronger show than Revenge, while both shows are dark dramas.
