Heralded as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, Ringer couldn’t hold onto its audience. The show’s been cancelled after one season and 22 episodes.
As Ringer begins, we meet Bridget (Gellar), a former stripper and recovering alcoholic who’s witnessed a murder and goes to stay with her estranged twin sister Siobhan (also Gellar). Her sister disappears so Bridget takes Siobhan’s place and soon realizes that her sister’s life was more complicated than her own. The TV series also features the talents of Nestor Carbonell, Ioan Gruffudd, Mike Colter, Tara Summers, Kristoffer Polaha, Zoey Deutch, Justin Bruening, Billy Miller, Jason Dohring, Nicole Anderson, and Gage Golightly.
Considering the amount of promotion that The CW put behind it, Ringer’s premiere had to viewed as a bit of a disappointment. It registered a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.84 million total viewers.

In week two, the demo dropped a whopping 25% to a 0.9 rating with 1.94 million. Week thee remained stable but week four plunged 33%.
Over the course of the season, the ratings fluctuated but also dwindled downward. They fell as low as a 0.4 rating (several times) with as few as 1.05 million viewers.
With very few hours of primetime real estate to fill, it just didn’t make sense for The CW to renew Ringer for a second season. They’ve cancelled the show and the last episode aired on April 17th. Since it wasn’t expected to be a series finale, several storylines were left up in the air.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Ringer has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two? Why do you think the ratings declined? Was it too hard to follow or just not interesting enough?

I can’t believe this show, that kept your mind working, like a good mystery novel, would be cancelled while some of these brain-numbing reality TV shows stay on. Put it on in a different time slot or on a different night to attract an audience who appreciates the challenge of a good mystery.
Ringer had flaws, but overall the story line was getting stronger as the season was ending. Because of my long working hours, I watched most of the episodes on line. I truly enjoyed the series and I am rather upset that it was cancelled. Isn’t over a million viewers enough to keep a show on the air these days?
Right on!!! A plot with suspense, great acting, realistic characters, that’s what we want. Not phony reality shows that are edited to a point where no thinking person can accept! Very frustrating!
Im so upset, i LOVED this show and was eager every week, there was so much more they could have done with season two because they definately left us hanging!
bring ringer back
I couldn’t agree more! Ringer should NOT have been cancelled. There are so few shows I’m actually eager to follow these days and Ringer was most definetely one of them – and I’m talking only ’bout the plot, not to mention the AMAZING characters and how the cast just wows me. I fell in love most characters in the show, cheering for them to get their happy endings. But while stupid shows like those ‘reality’ ones keep getting renewed, Ringer fell victim to ratings, which can be translated into people nowadays liking shows that don’t make you think, instead of… Read more »
I totally agree. It takes time for people to catch on. How many people start watching a series then go and buy it on DVD to get caught up and then end up wanting to see more. Like “Friends” the first season didn’t get many ratings and yet they had 10 seasons. It’s usually the first season that takes the hit, it’s the second season or so that gets people interested in the show. How many people will watch reruns of Ringer now and want to see more and find out how Siobhan will get her life back or mess… Read more »

There are few shows I’m actually eager to follow these days and Ringer was most definetely one of them – and I. While other stupid shows like 90210 keep getting renewed, Ringer fell victim of US ratings, which can be translated into people nowadays liking shows that don’t make you think instead of the ones that make your heart bounce and jump out your chest.
I honestly loved this show!!! i am going to be sorry on Tuesdays ): I thought the story line was greeat and I couldnt wait till the next episode. its sad to see shows like reality or the Pauly D show are a hit. I guess nothing but LAME’Os if you ask me..Goin to be missed RIP THE RINNGER
Again, another show that actually entertains the mind is canceled. This story was too good to let go. And maybe some should consider the over-50 demographic. I know a large number of people in that age group that LOVED the show. We buy products too!!!
What the hell is wrong with the CW for cancelling the “Ringer” is a great show I hope that the Lifetime network will put the “Ringer” on there network.
I can’t believe they cancelled it. There aren’t that many good shows left on TV. It was so well written and the plot twists made it so interesting. I couldn’t wait every week for the next episode to air.

I’m in shock!! What a GREAT show! Every episode was a cliff hanger! Great characters and lots of plot twists. It needs to be picked up by another network! With all of the dumb shows left they decide to cancel the best one!!??? Rediculous!!
Super bummed. I looked forward to this show every week! Some weeks I missed it but I ALWAYS looked so foward to catching up on it on my DVR!! Should not have been cancelled!!
One of the best shows I have ever seen. I only hope another network picks it up.
Umm I could cry! It was one of the very few shows I watched! My husband and I loved it and looked forward to it every week… Maybe it was because it was on Friday nights, and lots of people have plans then? I didnt mind, I have PVR. Hubby wont believe this when I tell him when I get home tonight!
These networks don’t give these shows a chance. They get rid of a show at the first dip in ratings, which is often caused by them airing episodes sporadically. When they yanked Ringer off for that weird break earlier this year, I had to go back and watch previous episodes to get clear on the plot lines. Now I wish I hadn’t bothered. This always happens to me. If the networks want to know which shows to cancel they should just let me see them all first and never air the ones I love. It would save the rest of… Read more »
