Tonight’s sixth season finale of Royal Pains ends with a cliffhanger. How’s it been doing in the ratings? Will the USA series return for a seventh season or will it be cancelled instead?
Royal Pains follows the continuing adventures of a former ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) from New York who, along with his younger brother (Paulo Costanzo), runs a concierge doctor business in The Hamptons. The show’s cast includes Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, and Ben Shenkman.
Year-to-year, Royal Pains is way down in the ratings. Compared to season five’s numbers, season six is down by a whopping 43% in viewership (averaging 2.03 million) and is down 35% in the 18-49 demographic (registering a 0.5 rating).
While those numbers are disturbing — and could certainly lead to the show being cancelled — all of USA Network’s scripted series are struggling and the cable channel theoretically can’t cancel everything.
Of the show’s chances for a renewal, co-creator and executive producer Andrew Lenchewski told TV Guide, “We’re optimists at heart and we think that the storytelling that we’ve done and the way the show has performed hopefully will earn us a Season 7. We really tried very hard not to let that uncertainty dictate how we wrapped up our stories this season. We really just wanted to tell the best stories we could with the most satisfying conclusions that we could and at the same time, make sure that we left room for new stories to be told if we do get the opportunity to continue.”
What do you think? Are you hoping that Royal Pains returns for season seven — or is it time for the series to be cancelled?
I enjoy the show very much!!! RENEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swell, now that we are totally committed to this story which is actually uniquely different then most all of the other shows, not to mention the beautiful scenery which most people can only dream about .the show might be cancelled ? Ugh ! Well won’t we all be shattered ? The show needs some closure.. You owe the viewers that much and perhaps along the way, the ratings will climb.
I really got hooked on watching the show. I first saw it on Roku and was watching at least 3 episodes a night. I hope they continue the series. It’s better then the sitcoms they show on TV.
Please , please renew…I fell in love and was addicted from the start. I had to go onto Netflix and watch the entire series from season 1 and then log onto USA network to watch current episodes. I was so disappointed to find that the season finale was this month….I want MORE! I love the characters and watch over and over “just to see her familiar friends”. This show is catching on….don’t let it die. We are spreading the word! SEASON 7? YES, PLEASE
The show is fun to watch, quite intriguing, every character has his own story so it’s not based on one or two main characters even tho for some of the audience it seems that way. The show just relaxes people, the actors have brought those characters in best possible way. I wish, and hope, that this show will not be canceled. I wish you all the best of luck in life cause by watching this show I went through difficult time in my life a lot easier than I thought cause this show was here to cheer me up and… Read more »
I’ve been watching Royal Pains on Australian tv since it started. It used to be on the main analogue channel but has been relegated to one of the digital channels . I’ve enjoyed it since day dot. The growth of the characters , the story line arcs, the lack of talking down to the audience. All of this appeals to me. Here’s hoping Royal Pains isn’t cancelled. We’ve just finished season 6 last night, when Hank flies off with Boris. The ethnic , intellectual and emotional/psychological mix of characters is a fresh breath. Love how Ben Shenkman plays Jeremiah. Very… Read more »
I love royal pains after my fa. tv show stoped thought I wouldn’t find replacement, please keep it running for the 7 season, love all the characters need to see what happens to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it, please continue.
If it wasn’t competing with same times as other equally good shows it would have better ratings… We watch Rizzoli & isles and then catch this on Demand. A lot if ppl also use dvrs and aren’t home…. They should never use numbers if ppl that actually sit down at a given time to watch! Some ppl have a life. I would say it’s slow moving.., easy going..we like it.
Hope it comes back. Good story line and likeable characters.
My friend introduced me to Royal Pains this last Summer….I fell in love and was addicted from the start. I had to go onto Netflix and watch the entire series from season 1 and then log onto USA network to watch current episodes. My friend is on her second or third time through the series. I was so disappointed to find that the season finale was this month….I want MORE! I love the characters and my friend has been watching the series over again from the beginning “just to see her familiar friends”. This show is catching on….don’t let it… Read more »

Please keep Royal Pains – the story and characters are great!
I am a late bloomer to Royal Pains and watched 6 seasons in a matter of a few weeks….I adore the characters and often sit and chuckle to myself at what the story lines bring us each episode!
You must continue with the series …..please!
If they are going to cancel royal pains atleasT do it the right way and tie up the plot. Don’t just leave it with a cliffhanger end it properly. That said I can watch a few more seasons. Add some suspense and have things go wrong for the characters and later in the season fix it.
