Tonight’s sixth season finale of Royal Pains ends with a cliffhanger. How’s it been doing in the ratings? Will the USA series return for a seventh season or will it be cancelled instead?
Royal Pains follows the continuing adventures of a former ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) from New York who, along with his younger brother (Paulo Costanzo), runs a concierge doctor business in The Hamptons. The show’s cast includes Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, and Ben Shenkman.
Year-to-year, Royal Pains is way down in the ratings. Compared to season five’s numbers, season six is down by a whopping 43% in viewership (averaging 2.03 million) and is down 35% in the 18-49 demographic (registering a 0.5 rating).
While those numbers are disturbing — and could certainly lead to the show being cancelled — all of USA Network’s scripted series are struggling and the cable channel theoretically can’t cancel everything.
Of the show’s chances for a renewal, co-creator and executive producer Andrew Lenchewski told TV Guide, “We’re optimists at heart and we think that the storytelling that we’ve done and the way the show has performed hopefully will earn us a Season 7. We really tried very hard not to let that uncertainty dictate how we wrapped up our stories this season. We really just wanted to tell the best stories we could with the most satisfying conclusions that we could and at the same time, make sure that we left room for new stories to be told if we do get the opportunity to continue.”
What do you think? Are you hoping that Royal Pains returns for season seven — or is it time for the series to be cancelled?
Great snow. Great people on a show. Yes to a new season
I love this show, Royal Pains is well written, wholesome, love the characters and the storyline. I dont have cable and have used Netflix to see seasons 1-5. have to buy season 6 now. I love Hank Med!!!!
royal pains should have another season. it is 1 of the best show’s around.
I enjoy Royal Pains i loved it from season 1, this series catches you from every episode and its not like the other series where there is so much negativity etc….Royal Pains is a calm and enjoyable series and that’s true.
I’m from South Africa and Royal Pains is a HIT here everyone loves it, i dont understand why your network has to take ratings only in the USA?????? Its really unfair!!!
The USA always want the ugly tv shows to stay on-air and thats just my agreement.
So i would like USA Network to renew Royal Pains.
Hoping for a 2015 season. Enjoy the show, light entertainment to get away from all the worldwide negativity.
I used to like the show a lot but less so these days, particularly in the last few years. Maybe it’s a coincidence that those are the same years that Fuerstein became an exec producer? The addition of the long lost sister is a desperate attempt as well as the strange all-of-a-sudden drama over Divya’s baby.
I really like the show but I have a hard time finding it on. We have been watching it on Netflix so we can see them in a row. I am guessing the ratings went down because of consistency. Make sure it is advertised correctly and we know when to expect the new one to start!
We love this show! Compared to some of the other programs we watch, this show is a breath of fresh air. The characters are all full of life and each one brings something special to the show. Good, clean verbiage with no swear words. WOW, that is rare these days. This show is just getting good! All the possible scenarios with the different characters. Please do not cancel this show!
This is one of my shows I look forward too…. KEEP IT ON…
Please make more episodes.
Great stories & great characters!
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!! PLEASE leave it on………I am so looking forward to seeing season 7!!!!!!
I love this show. And while the medical research is sometimes a little dramatized and the ethics of how Hank and some of the others perform their medicine is sometimes questionable at best, the story is good and the research is solid.
I love this show! Please keep it on
Love the show , keep it on !!
This is a great series and I am looking forward to a continuation for the 2014-1015 season!!!
