Scandal has been renewed for season six by ABC, but will next season be its last? The stars spoke about that possibility, and they are leaving the future of the series in hands of its creator, who is Shonda Rhimes.
Ad Week shared the latest comments made by Tony Goldwyn about the series, and he knows his presidency is up at the end of next season. This puts his time on the series in question. He said the following:
“I’m assuming at the end of next season, my presidency will be finished. So what happens to Scandal once there’s a new president? Either that’s the end or Shonda has something in mind that may or may not include me, a whole other direction. “Shonda and her team constantly paint themselves into corners, storytelling-wise, where you go, well, you’re never going to be able to get out of that! And they do,” says Goldwyn. “So I do believe that even if she intended to end the show there, if she suddenly thought, hmm, let’s do something totally different, I would not be surprised at all.”
Kerry Washington was brief with her own comments about the end of the series. She is the one putting her trust in the hands of Rhimes.
This series is still one of the top shows on ABC, and it is integral part of the TGIT lineup. The storytelling has made a lot of twists and turns this season, and this writer is thinking that it might be time to wrap things up with the end of Fitz’s presidency.
Are you a fan of Scandal? Do you want the series to go beyond Fitz’s presidency? Tell us what you think.
I do not want Scandal to be cancelled.
Just another great show ending!! Scandal is one of my favorite shows to watch! I can’t stand when great show gets cancelled!!
Over the last few years, ABC has made one mistake after another with cancellations of Nashville, Revenge, Last Man Standing and now Scandal. I watch less and less of ABC due to your lousy programming choices. I wish you luck but cancelling Scandal is a huge mistake.
