TV show description:
This comedy series is based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. It follows Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan) — a “social media superstar.” She has 263,000 followers who hang on to her every post, tweet, and selfie. However, after a mishap on a worktrip goes viral, she realizes that being “instafamous” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Being friended is not the same as having real friends.
Frantic, Eliza enlists her co-worker, marketing guru Henry Higgs (John Cho), to help ‘rebrand’ her self-obsessed reputation and teach her how to connect with people in the real world. At first, Henry wants nothing to do with her but he ultimately takes pity on Eliza.
With a few expert tweaks — and some help from the bubbly office receptionist Charmonique Whitaker (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) and Eliza’s quirky neighbor Brynn (Allyn Rachel) — Henry can tone down her palette, teach her a few social graces, and help break Eliza of her instinct to put Internet connection above personal connection.
What Henry doesn’t anticipate, however, is how much he’ll learn. As a workaholic who rarely makes time for socializing. Even Henry’s boss, Sam Saperstein (David Harewood), knows he is disconnected from personal relationships. Henry eventually begins to realize that his little “project” just might have something to teach him.
Episode #13 — Woke Up Like This
Eliza gets a confidence boost when she learns that her new female role model/former middle school bully used Eliza’s life as an inspiration forr her success. Henry is determined to rid himself of his childhood poser status by finally teaching himself how to ride a skateboard.
First aired: December 30, 2014 (online).
What do you think? Do you like the Selfie TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
me and my wife love selfie its refreshing to see a good comedy now a days. dont cancel them.
I love it. It is such a good light funny comedy. Keep it on thank you
I love selfie i’m always at work when it comes on and look forward to watching it on demand on weekends. pls pls don’t cancel it!!!! I don’t see any new episodes on demand
I love it charmonique is cute. Brin adorable. I’ll watch anything that has john cho
I really like this show and really do not want to see it cancelled. I was skeptical when I viewed the advertising but my husband and I were both pleasantly surprised. The two actors that play the main characters have a great energy with each other. Karen Gillan brings just the right touch to her character without being over the top ridiculous and John Cho plays his character perfectly. Da’ Vine Joy Randolph has some great moments too. Aalso, a shout to all the other actors and writers who help bring this together. Please don’t cancel!!
Didn’t a joke on this show remark that it smelled like dead people when he entered the room, because the main character shopped at a thrift store , as if they were above shopping at a thrift store well news flash-If they eat at a restaurant than they may be eating on utensils that deceased persons used as well. It was a pious remark made by the supposedly more intellect of the couple.
I like this show. I think the 2 main characters have chemistry and work well together. I think it is some of the supporting cast that doesn’t make the entire cast gel well. I do enjoy the show. I am sad it is taking a two week break and it is not even thanksgiving yet.
This show needs to be flushed because by and large we are not going to watch it. So, OK, I vote for gay rights, against anti-gay laws, and I’ve read the riot act to reactionary haters who phoned me to ask for bucks to “protect the sanctity of marriage”. Along with about 150 million other Americans, I am solidly FOR rights – gay and otherwise – and absolutely UNwilling to watch gay action. So this show Selfie, with a tween age producer I guess, thinks it needs to show how hip it is by jamming gay action onto my TV… Read more »
What are you talking about TS?? Clearly, you haven’t even watched this show.
There is no gay coupling on it and seriously, who cares if there was? I believe you are confusing it with How to Get Away With Murder, which features gay storylines. Selfie is cute and mind numbing for 30 minutes, just what we all need.
I love it! John Cho is hilarious as Henry, a perfect casting. I really hope this doesn’t get cancelled. It needs a nice run.
Keep it ON ! Love John Cho.
I wanted to like this show. It has it’s moments but I don’t think it has the potential to make it. I hope I’m wrong because I think it could get better but if it keeps going the way it’s going it’s going to be cancelled. (In my opinion) it’s not that funny and feels like it’s trying too hard.
This comedy is fresh, vibrant, and very funny. Gillan inhabits the role of the clueless, shallow, but totally charming girl, perfectly, and Cho’s performance is spot on as the socially awkward, out of touch, workaholic. Together, these two characters provide relatable points of view that span two generations of viewers: Gen Xers AND Millennials. (How many shows can say that?) I am so tired of family sit coms making fun of moms, dads and kids in the same, safe, old ways, that I would honestly rather beat my head against a wall than watch another one. “Selfie” is so socially… Read more »
I could not agree with you more about the saturation of family sitcomsand about this one spanning two generations of viewers. I do hope it is given a chance to evolve.
I hate to be the bad guy here, but I believe this show isn’t good. I hope it was, mainly because I love John Cho and I was sad when they cancelled Go On, so when I heard he’d be here, I watched the first couple of episodes.
Let’s hope it gets better, because I believe that, at this rate, it should be cancelled before it ends the season *cough* Surviving Jack *cough*
It’s freaking adorable! You cannot cancel it.
We all thought it was really cute, funny, and has a lot of potential. Love the characters. Hope they give this show a chance!!!
