On Sunday night, ABC aired a new reality competition series. So, how did Shark Tank do? Did it succeed in the ratings or was it eaten alive by the competition?
From The Apprentice’s Mark Burnett, Shark Tank gives budding entrepreneurs the chance to make their dreams come true. To do that, they must convince five tough, multi-millionaires to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they need to jumpstart their ideas. The five are Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John.
But the show’s not as one-sided as it may seem. The business people are looking for solid investments and, once the “sharks” find a project they like, they negotiate to take as big a percentage of the profits as possible. How far is either side willing to go?

After weeks of promotion, Shark Tank debuted on Sunday, August 9th at 9pm. The premiere attracted an average of just 4.23 million viewers with a low 1.3/4 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The first half-hour was in fourth place for total viewers and the second half-hour rose just a bit to place in third. The entire hour was in fourth place in the all-important demographic and lost a huge chunk of its lead-in audience.
If the show continues to tank like this, it certainly won’t have much of a future on the network. ABC reportedly still has 12 episodes left to air. Six of them are scheduled to run on Sunday nights and then Shark Tank’s set to switch to Tuesday evenings. Unless the numbers get better, it seems unlikely that ABC will keep those plans.
What do you think? Is the show worth watching or should the network throw in the towel and cancel it already?

Please bring that show back and do reunion show…so we can follow up on the deals that were made.
The Sharktank is awesome dont take it off the air.
I love the show and want it to stay on tv. ABC please continue to support shark tank.
I have an idea that would employeea lot of people in this weak economy. I am trying to acquire two spots in Fayetteville, NC. There is an old Black and Decker building that I want to turn into a mall and 65 acers housing on lake front in an established neightborhood called Rayconda to build all kinds of housing from high to low income housing. BB&T banking and Freddie Mac are the two banks that have seen my plans and are working with me on the condition of finding an investors to invest 2 million dollars to get these porjects… Read more »
I love this show. I find their reasons to invest or go “out” very interesting. I do think they made a mistake on the show 10/13 by not investing with the Veterinarian. I really believed that man and would definitely purchase his supplements for my dogs. In fact, I would still like to find them on the net. Keep the show on. Please.
As a persone looking to start a business I’ve written to them and think the show is GREAT, ABC needs to hang on and promote the show a bit more.
I Love this show!
I agree Mark Burnett only steals ideas, I gave him this idea 4 years ago, as he dubt me as I was an apprentice finalist, he took my ideas and some what does them. The only problem is if he listed to me he would have onwed it all, not these investors taking the deals, they would have been his and on a large scale. Its ok, time will tell who was correct.

I like the show, but I’m confused about its comparison with a British equivalent, because I don’t see anywhere on this page where that was asked (e.g. “Should the show be cancelled because it is better, or worse than its British equivalent). Someone also commented on the arrogance of one of the sharks (Kevin): AGREED; but I question if that is a 50% tv personality, 50% true personality mix. Note: he (guy sitting in the middle) is the wealthiest of the sharks (e.g. he pays his personal chef $146,000 per year) and has floating yacht garages)… The tv personality is… Read more »
i love the show
its kevin O’leary who says ur dead to me not robert
Robert Herjavec is so mean and has no feelings at all!!! I hear him say that someone is “Dead to him” & BELITTLES PEOPLE imho to make himself feel better. It is to bad that he feels the need to get the most camera time. When you look at him it looks like he is trying to think of something rude to say so the people will cave in and give him 100% of a company for $10,00.00. Please people do not take the time to watch this show, it is a wait of time and brain cells. You can… Read more »

As a future contestant, of course I want the show to continue.
I believe that with some minor changes in the format such as having more actual consumer products displayed rather than just idea’s or web site type business.
The viewing public will be more reciptive if they were exposed to more exciting new products.
My product is a teaching golf grip that will improve every golfers game including Tiger Woods. There are over 30 million golfers in the US and every one needs 13 golf grips. Thanks, Hope the ratings go up. Al J. Vela future contestant
I don’t think this show will survive the original 12 episodes. It may do better on CNBC or Bloomberg if reformatted, but Mark Burnett has to stop insulting the audience’s intelligence with this over-the-top, abrasive brand of television. Also, no investor or VC worth his reputation would ever appear as a panelist on a reality show. My wife lived in London during her undergraduate studies, and she told me that the problem is that US reality shows adapted from UK shows don’t always translate well. I’ve yet to see Dragon’s Den, but I think Shark Tank reinforces the Ebenezer Scrooge… Read more »
