Though ABC’s reality series Shark Tank hasn’t been doing big business in the ratings, the network is apparently happy enough with the ratings to want additional installments.
Each episode of Shark Tank spotlights entrepreneurs and inventors who are looking for capitol to help fuel their dreams. They pitch their ideas to successful business people Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John, otherwise known as “the Sharks.” If they’re interested, the Sharks offer to invest their own money but typically want a bigger piece of the pie than the inventor has in mind.
The series is based on a UK program called Dragons’ Den and the first of 10 episodes premiered on ABC on August 9th. The ratings weren’t anything to crow about during the summer and were expected to drop even lower opposite new fall programming. Surprisingly, the numbers have actually started to rise in the past few weeks. Though they’re still quite low, would that be enough for the network to invest in more episodes?
A couple days ago, Harrington encouraged fans to ask ABC to keep the show going. After wondering what she’d do on Tuesday nights now that the show was off the air, Corcoran wrote that a second season was still under consideration by the network.
While ABC has yet to make an official announcement, two of the Sharks themselves spilled the info this weekend. Herjavec broke the news late yesterday and wrote, “Great news – ABC has ordered more episodes of Shark Tank !!!! No air date yet – but it’s coming.”
John confirmed the news but cautioned that it was not a full season pickup. He wrote, “great news! but 5 [more episodes] is not a full season, we have to turn it up 4 them to make it a full season.” He later said that he didn’t know the airdate either and suggested they wouldn’t air at least until 2010.
UPDATE: ABC later clarified that two additional episodes would be created out of existing footage. They will be combined with three leftover installments and will be aired at a later date. There’s still no decision on a second season.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Shark Tank is coming back, at least for a little while?

Shark Tank is a great teaching tool for me in Entrepreneurship and Marketing classes. The benefits the students receive from watching these entrepreneurs are too numerous to list. Bring back Shark Tank!
Smartest show ABC has on… highly entertaining – they would make a mistake to get rid of it; needs time to grow.
Please don’t cancel this show. I was looking forward to watching it, then they kept changing the times/days on me. The next thing I knew, it wasn’t coming on anymore. Very valuable show. Encourages entreprenuership.
SharkTank is a real reality show. Can’t wait to see the new season.
I am from China and i do love it
I was trying to figure out how I could get on the show when I heard it was cancelled. Please don’t cancel, this is the only comfirmation given to would-be inventors to keep trying.
the show needs show more of the inventors and the mistakes that person did to come up with invention even if you have to make something up/talk about older inventors/like benny etc… the one thing i liked was when they fought over a inventor. Even if they are not going to invest, they should have key words that let the other person know when its time to back down.make it as if they are battling. even if there are only one investor. the key is haveing all the elements in the show. don’t show the invention unless someone bites then… Read more »
It has quality and value, KEEP THE SHOW
Please keep the show on.
Please don’t cancel the show, i want to be on it !!!!!
Most “reality” shows consists of sex, people trying to screw each other behind their backs, doing disgusting stuff, etc., at least this one had merit. Hmmm … let’s see … more of the bad (with networks saying “that’s what people want/gets ratings”) or something that possibly educates you or spurs you on to be creative, yourself? Personally, I’d rather see something like Shark Tank, but then again I’m educated/the minority. The execs will probably lower themselves and lower the viewing public … by airing junk. Even though I like Shark Tank, I don’t hold out much hope of another season.… Read more »
Bring it back. It gives people hope for stimulating ideas in this down economy. Shows like this invigorate the senses and although the approach needs tweeking, people need to believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that their contribution can help others.
ABC has to bring back the “Sharks.” Why? If one has paid any attention to the current economic environment, and one has half a brain then one would unstand just how important it is to get entrepreneurs up and going. Entrepreneurs hire people which stimulates the economy. You think we need this? This program sheds light on those who are looking to make the U.S. strong again. ABC has to bring it back, while at the same time create episodes that are even more educational, informative, and just down right entertaining.
bring it back!!!!
DO NOT CANCEL!! GREAT SHOW AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY MORE!
Great Show. Do Not Cancel. Have started seven businesses. Very realistic! Trust me!
