Though ABC’s reality series Shark Tank hasn’t been doing big business in the ratings, the network is apparently happy enough with the ratings to want additional installments.
Each episode of Shark Tank spotlights entrepreneurs and inventors who are looking for capitol to help fuel their dreams. They pitch their ideas to successful business people Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John, otherwise known as “the Sharks.” If they’re interested, the Sharks offer to invest their own money but typically want a bigger piece of the pie than the inventor has in mind.
The series is based on a UK program called Dragons’ Den and the first of 10 episodes premiered on ABC on August 9th. The ratings weren’t anything to crow about during the summer and were expected to drop even lower opposite new fall programming. Surprisingly, the numbers have actually started to rise in the past few weeks. Though they’re still quite low, would that be enough for the network to invest in more episodes?
A couple days ago, Harrington encouraged fans to ask ABC to keep the show going. After wondering what she’d do on Tuesday nights now that the show was off the air, Corcoran wrote that a second season was still under consideration by the network.
While ABC has yet to make an official announcement, two of the Sharks themselves spilled the info this weekend. Herjavec broke the news late yesterday and wrote, “Great news – ABC has ordered more episodes of Shark Tank !!!! No air date yet – but it’s coming.”
John confirmed the news but cautioned that it was not a full season pickup. He wrote, “great news! but 5 [more episodes] is not a full season, we have to turn it up 4 them to make it a full season.” He later said that he didn’t know the airdate either and suggested they wouldn’t air at least until 2010.
UPDATE: ABC later clarified that two additional episodes would be created out of existing footage. They will be combined with three leftover installments and will be aired at a later date. There’s still no decision on a second season.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Shark Tank is coming back, at least for a little while?

I really miss shark tank… couldnt wait for friday nights to watch it… Everyone i know loves it too… please bring SHARK TANK back….
Let Freedom Ring…We need to see the struggles and pitfalls of inventive products and services come our way. We have children to make things better through the passing generations. I am in awe to see how far these new and some older folks who let their ideas simmer and develop over the years, and then get a chance to get it out there in the world. The public needs to see this to offer hope for those in the process right now.
KEEP THIS SHOW ON THE AIR, Please.
This is a terrific show! We put it on our TV calendar to watch every Friday!

I love this show. It is so entertaining. I will be heartbroken if it is cancelled. Friday night was a great night to air this show. It was the only thing on TV worth watching.
I would love to come on your show and show America what a girl from South Central came up with your show is more embraceable that some of the others I have seen. I am a Inventor and need capital to build a prototype of my invention. Each unit is worth 40,000.00 per unit.
Thank You
Top 3 reasons why Shark Tank should continue…
1. Inspiring! The more that I see someone coming up with a cool idea that can help people in general, it makes me want to create something as well!
2. Creates jobs! If a new business can develop by making a quick 5 minute presentation, then i’m all for it! Lets help our hurting US economy!
3. Helps the abc network by letting us know that you are creating thoughtful, creative, and inspiring shows for all of us!
Thank you. I’m off to creating my new idea…
FABULOUS show! I learn something everytime I tune in. Such a talented and successful panel. They tell it like it is. None of us want to hear the harsh truth…but is saves and propels us to higher achievements. PLEASE tell me this show will continue.
This show is incredible . As a teacher it can be such a useful aid for presentations etc – as an entrepreneur it makes me want to take my college service to another level. Hopefully more people will write in to keep it going . Love it !!!
Absolutely. Maybe to make the show more interesting if we knew the background of some of the inventors / entrepreneurs. Maybe some interior shots at his or her home, sorta like american idol.
I would love to see more episodes of Shark Tank. It is one of the few shows I look forward to watching. The personalities and dynamics between panel members are great. Add the inventors, their ideas, and their marketing strategy and you have an interesting mix.
One of a FEW good shows on TV. Please don’t cancel it. That show inspires the young and old at heart to get up and do something different and venture out.
