Though ABC’s reality series Shark Tank hasn’t been doing big business in the ratings, the network is apparently happy enough with the ratings to want additional installments.
Each episode of Shark Tank spotlights entrepreneurs and inventors who are looking for capitol to help fuel their dreams. They pitch their ideas to successful business people Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John, otherwise known as “the Sharks.” If they’re interested, the Sharks offer to invest their own money but typically want a bigger piece of the pie than the inventor has in mind.
The series is based on a UK program called Dragons’ Den and the first of 10 episodes premiered on ABC on August 9th. The ratings weren’t anything to crow about during the summer and were expected to drop even lower opposite new fall programming. Surprisingly, the numbers have actually started to rise in the past few weeks. Though they’re still quite low, would that be enough for the network to invest in more episodes?
A couple days ago, Harrington encouraged fans to ask ABC to keep the show going. After wondering what she’d do on Tuesday nights now that the show was off the air, Corcoran wrote that a second season was still under consideration by the network.
While ABC has yet to make an official announcement, two of the Sharks themselves spilled the info this weekend. Herjavec broke the news late yesterday and wrote, “Great news – ABC has ordered more episodes of Shark Tank !!!! No air date yet – but it’s coming.”
John confirmed the news but cautioned that it was not a full season pickup. He wrote, “great news! but 5 [more episodes] is not a full season, we have to turn it up 4 them to make it a full season.” He later said that he didn’t know the airdate either and suggested they wouldn’t air at least until 2010.
UPDATE: ABC later clarified that two additional episodes would be created out of existing footage. They will be combined with three leftover installments and will be aired at a later date. There’s still no decision on a second season.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Shark Tank is coming back, at least for a little while?

I love the show shark tank, i just started watching so i only caught the last 5 episodes. I am desperately looking for the rest of the season. I am a young kid and it really intrigues me, so i really hope they renew this show for a full season not only 5 episodes!
I like the show and hope that there will be more.
I LOVE Shark Tank!! It is interesting, informative and educational. I also like the
update segment of the show on inventors / entrepreneurs who have accepted “shark/s”
offers and how their business has grown since they have teamed up with the “shark/s”. I cannot wait for the next season of Shark Tank. Thanks for a GREAT show!!
Love this show. Especially if they keep it real. In other words, don’t “stage” anything. Let it be. If the inventors keep bringing interesting concepts to the show, that’s all the drama they need.
I look forward to each Friday evening when Shark Tank is shown. It is a wonderful
program and i have even purchased some of the new items that the Sharks invested in. Please keep it showing. It is so refreshing to see something “real” on TV. I have learned a lot just by watching this show. I tell all of my friends and family about Shark Tank.
May God bless and keep it going.
I love this show. If ABC ever decides to take this show off the air, they will regret it big time. The concept is really unique. It’s the American Idol for entrepreneurs. I hope ALL of the SHARKS stick with it. They all work well together. PLUS, I’m still waiting to get my opportunity. LOL. No seriously, I got some good ideas. Some gooder than others. LOL.
P.S.
God bless everyone who agrees with me.
I have the most innovative golf bag ever invented. I have made a rough mockup and am thoroughly convinced that if I could get it before the Sharks we would do a deal. I look forward to next season with great anticipation and hope I will be afforded that chance. I have over thirty years of manufacturing experience and designed this unit to be built efficiently.
Love the show…hope ABC allows for a second season!

I just started to watch this program Friday before last, and I think it is a wonderful show. I enjoy watching people bring their ideas, some are good and others we can do with out. I hope and pray that your show will stay on forever. I have an idea I would love to bring to your show! we need more good clean shows like yours.
I have an idea the whole world will want for generations to come, but I need your help.
I need Shark Tank. I’m learning so much. I have products and ideas that I hope to present to the Sharks. There are entrepreneurs that are tuning in in hopes of being successful with their dreams. But, as smaller companies, we don’t necessary have the were with all. Thanks to the Sharks – I’m learning.
I LOVE this show! It’s refreshing to see a show in prime-time which teaches and motivates in a productive way, using the talent’s own money/ personalities. It is exactly what is needed in this down spiraling economy… It is time to reinvent ourselves and the motivation is invaluable. I personally have gotten dozens of my friends to become fans – just by word of mouth. Please keep it coming back!

My husband has something he would like to introduce for ice fishermen. It is a rattle reel that also sets the hook. Ideal for fishing out of a fish shack or sitting on a bucket. It should improve any ice fishermen catch!

I was thrilled when I heard that Shark Tank will be back – it is by far the best of the reality shows on air. There are excellent lessons to be learned – and it gives us all a chance to cheer for the small businesses and entrepreneurs that are keeping this country going. Good for ABC for bringing this type of education entertainment to us.
How do you submit your idea to get on the show? The website says to send email to sharktankcasting@yahoo.com but that mailbox has been closed. Are they accepting any new submissions?
