To no surprise, FOX has pulled Sons of Tucson after just four episodes have aired. With a track record of terrible ratings, it’s most likely cancelled and leaving little hope for a second season. Interestingly, series star Tyler Labine seemed to have known the bad news was coming.
Sons of Tucson revolves around Ron Snuffkin (Labine), a sporting goods clerk who lives in his car and owes money to a loan shark. He’s hired by three boys (Benjamin Stockham, Frank Dolce, and Matthew Levy) to play their father for a school meeting after their real dad goes to jail for banking fraud. The series also features Sarayu Rao, Edwin Habacon, and Natalie Martinez .
The sitcom got off to a poor start in the ratings with just a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.47 million viewers. The second installment dropped even lower, to a 1.9 rating and 3.84 million viewers. Episode three bumped up a little to a 2.0 and 4.03 million but, on Sunday night, it fell to a new low of a 1.4 rating and 3.13 million viewers (per the overnights).
To no surprise, FOX has decided to cut their losses.
Though Labine had high hopes for the series, supposedly turning down the opportunity to keep Reaper going in first-run syndication, he seemed to be able to tell that Sons of Tucson wasn’t long for this world.
Back in January, Labine was offered a starring role in a CBS pilot called True Love. Though it would have been in second position (behind Sons of Tucson), Labine passed on the project. Then, two months later, after seeing a couple weeks of disappointing ratings for Tucson, Labine changed his mind and signed on to True Love.
Sons of Tucson has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately and will be replaced by episodes of American Dad for the immediate future. The remaining nine episodes of Tucson are expected to be burned off this summer, beginning June 6th. Though it has not been officially cancelled, it’s a big longshot to be renewed.
What do you think? Was Sons of Tucson worth watching? Are you sorry to see it go? Do you think there’s any chance it’ll be back?

I’m so upset to hear that its leaving. Even though only 4 episodes have aired i’ve become obsessed with it and now that i know its cancelled i cant help but pray it’ll get betetr ratings and come back. i always looked forward to sunday nights to watch sons of tucson and would watch the episodes numerous times online after it airs. I downloaded the first episode for free off itunes and have no idea how many times i’ve seen the pilot. I used to watch it like 5 times a day and never got tired of it BRING SONS… Read more »
I have an idea. CBS should pick up the show, air it in place of Two and a Half Men. Kids like to have Angela around which Ron finds annoying. Nautally he feels his position threatened, which adds another dimension to the storyline.
Please, please, don’t cancel the show. There are very few comedies on the TV I would like to watch. Most of them are so boorish.
This show was fantastic.. So sorry to see it go. Only show I was watching on FOX…
Please bring it back!!!!
I liked the show. I wanted to see more episodes. I think you have to give the show another chance… i dont think people had a chance to discover it. Come on fox…
I am starting a facebook page against FOX’s dumb cuts it should be up TUES. tommorrow night, please come and help support the rage against dumb FOX decisions.
Just look up fox tv’s dumb decisions, and see how many people we can get to join the page and let fox know how stupid they are…
This is some real B.S., Fox is a joke and if they keep cutting the real shows like Sons Of Tucson, King of the hill, 5th grader, Prison Break and go for the stupid shish like Apprentice and other dumb shish they deserve to be cancelled as a station. What a bunch of crap, I used to love Fox for the good shows like the simpsons, family guy, cleland and others like sons of tucson and king of the hill, but now it is seriously a joke and hope they choke on it. Maybe we can hope that a REAL… Read more »
I love this show it was funnier then hell
FOX is dumb
I watched the first four episodes mainly because I had some spare time on my hands and I have to say, the show was petty lame. I really hate American Dad and actually most of what Seth McFarlin (sp?) does these days and this was a slight step up from all of that but nothing anyone will miss. Fox’s Sunday night line up hasn’t been great in years.
Yo Fox! Ya gotta give new shows a chance!! 4 episodes isn’t enough time for people to find it, plus the fact you’re running it against the big guns…Desperate Housewives, Celebrity Apprentice, and the smash hit Undercover Boss (season finale already aired). And the lead in is cartoons. People who watch cartoons are a different breed. But Sons is different from the standard fare sitcoms, so why not try putting it on a night where people may find it, and not against the big ratings draw shows. I like the characters, I like the premise, and I’d like to see… Read more »
I think that FOX was dumb to cancel/hiatus the show after 4 episodes. For 1 thing, The time slot was late in the evening. The 2nd thing is that they should have waited a few more episodes to see how it goes. I think that they should renew this show because it is really funny and would be a great show to see continue. I think that it had a lot of potential and room for growth. I hope this show continues.
So I go to my dvr list and was like damn directv . I had sot scheduled to record. To find out that fox cancelled it makes me pissed I thought it was funny and suspensefull wondering what the next episode had to bear. Can’t wait till June for season release. F U fox.
I loved the “Sons of Tucson”. I like my dramas ie “Desperate House Wives” and “Cold Case” but for a fun show “SOT” was perfect for a Sundays. Get rid of Donald Trump, can’t stand the guy, he has enough money, give time to the real actors. My son was faithful to “The Reaper” so it was good to see someone from that show. I never watch reality T.V. it is awful and it makes me uncomfortable watching the mean disgusting, sadistic behaviors of so-called humans. I watch T.V. to escape and even though the boys were a little over… Read more »
The show is pure CRAP!! Glad to see AMERICAN DAD is back finally!!!!!
You enjoy as much American Dad as you want while all of us wish that Sons of Tucson would continue.
This show had alot of potential. The first few episodes were fun and engaging. Can’t a network have a bit more confidence in their creations, and run them a while longer before deciding to ax them?? You stink FOX.
gee golly that was harsh.. you should go easier on the language! PLEASE! THAT SHOW SUCKED ASS
