Cancel your season two plans, fans. There will be no second season of the Sun Records TV show on CMT. The story is ending with one season and has already been removed from the press site. The series is set in Memphis, Tennessee, during the early days of the Civil Rights movement and the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.
A music business drama, Sun Records stars Chad Michael Murray, Billy Gardell, Drake Milligan, Kevin Fonteyne, Christian Lees, and Jonah Lees. The CMT cast also includes: Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
Deadline reports:
While Nashville — which is half-way though its first season on CMT and fifth overall — has been renewed for a 16-episode sixth season, there are no plans to extend its companion, 8-episode period drama Sun Records, which chronicles the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, CMT’s head of development Jayson Dinsmore told Deadline.
“Originally we had planned for it to be a three-night events, and we morphed the development into a limited-run series,” Dinsmore said of Sun Records, which got a boost by airing behind Nashville. “It always was to be a limited-run series. It did extremely well but there are no current plans for additional episodes. We may revisit. You never know, because it did quite well.”
Sun Records: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Sun Records averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 585,000 viewers. While those ratings seem low in comparison to broadcast network TV series, they fall between the other CMT TV shows we are tracking (i.e. Nashville and Still the King).
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Sun Records TV series? Do you think CMT should have cancelled or renewed it for season two?
I absolutely loved it and my husband and friends did too. They should definitely try again for a new season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the show and I am so disappointed that it has been cancelled
Loved the show. Ended before JLL got involved…boo
Bummed it won’t be back. I don’t watch much television; however, I enjoyed this show. I thought it was one of the better shows aired in recent years.
Didn’t give the show a chance, that’s why ratings are down people are tired of show like this getting cancel. I rather watch Netflix now since regular tv is a waste.
I thought the show was awesome…cannot believe it was cancelled yet TV shows with less ratings gets renewed…..if there isn’t enough rape, murder, lust, greed, foulness, and anti Christian action then it gets cancelled……
I loved this show! I can’t believe it was canceled. Once again, we baby boomers no longer matter. Instead of listening to the fans of this show, they cancel it because the 18 year olds aren’t watching. We thought this was an excellent show with a great cast. Please, please, someone pick it up and bring it back.
I was looking forward to the next season of Sun Records. Bring it back. Very disappointed.
I
I personally would love to see this show continue, it was a really good show. I’m not sure how some of the shows that are on continue to be aired and shows like this one get cancelled. We loved watching it and would love to see it come back on. I truly hope you consider it. Thank you!!
Bring it back! The acting was phenomenal! This is our history! Bring it back! My sister worked for Sun Records!
Bring back sun records for season two
Please bring back sun records.. Loved the show
