Last season, Supergirl aired on CBS but the ratings weren’t strong enough for it to stay on the network. The TV show’s now moved to The CW. Will many viewers follow the superhero series? Will it be a hit in the ratings on the smaller network — even though the numbers will be much lower? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood. Recurring actors this season include Calista Flockhart, Ian Gomez, Katie McGrath, Lynda Carter, Brenda Strong, and Tyler Hoechlin.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/8 update: The CW has renewed the Supergirl TV show for a third season. Details here.
5/23 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The first season of Supergirl on CBS averaged a 1.68 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.68 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
They should end this **** stopped at the 17 episode of season 1…… And the should bring back The tomorrow people
I wouldn’t worry too much about Supergirl. The ratings have been steady. It’s the CW 2nd highest rated show. And it improved Mondays for the CW by 120%. Supergirl could last for years.
Cancellation my ass. The most recent ep just jumped to 1.0, hopefully won’t adjust down too much. Supergirl FTW!!!
Decided to stop watching after the third episode of season 2. It lost something after leaving CBS for The CW and having Calista Flockhart gone is really disappointing. Won’t be watching any longer sadly.
Started out OK, but is steadily getting worse the more the writers try to delve into all this political tribe. I love the character of Supergirl, but I’d just assume the show be cancelled that to have more political agenda’s shoved down my throat…
There are literally over 50 shows currently being broadcast on network TV that are more likely to be cancelled than Supergirl. Including every other show on the CW except for the Flash.
Fine, then let them be cancelled, bring on something people want to watch. Bring me back SG from Season 1.
-Now, I am going to go watch SG S1 on my BluRay disks
This show is nothing more than pro feminist pro open boarders anti male anti gun garbage
Considering all the anti-feminist, closed borders, pro male, pro gun shows on TV shouldn’t there be at least one show on TV that gives an alternative point of view?
Yes, and the more extreme “Alternative point of view” they decide to show…the rating keep going down and down.
-Fact
The show is aiming for an educated demographic.
I want the show to succeed. I pleaded and pleaded with SG producers to reconsider the direction they headed the show in. Now the average to date is .83. You see, the CW initially rejected Supergirl. But CBS ran with it anyway. Unwilling to cancel, CBS dropped it in the CW’s lap. IMHO the CW pres. is sandbagging the show to get it canceled and off his budget asap. CBS owns the CW so it had to make a good show of it. But every decision made since Supergirl was renewed will prove to be detrimental to what was (in… Read more »
23 comments for Supergirl this season, 3 for Arrow, and 0 for Flash and 23 comments for Supergirl this season, 3 for Arrow, and 0 for Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. What ever else you want to say about Supergirl, the show generates far more interest than the other comic book show on the CW.
That’s silly. The only thing the network cares about are the ratings. People who like the Flash and Arrow are typically on Reddit and other platforms discussing the show. Also remember this website is about shows being canceled or not..fans of Arrow and The Flash aren’t worried about their shows being canceled.
Supergirl is the CW’s second highest rated show and improved Mondays for the CW by 133%. So the likelihood of Supergirl getting cancelled is about 0%. Arrow is more in danger of getting cancelled than Supergirl. And Arrow has a 99% chance of being renewed. Also keep in mind Supergirl gets preempted for football a lot. This past Monday the New York affiliate, one of the largest in the nation, aired the Giants game instead of Supergirl because of contractual obligations. Something Flash and Arrow don’t have to worry about. No doubt the CW takes that into consideration. Supergirl is… Read more »
Thanks for clearing that up. Though, when is football over? The ratings would be better were it not for that, though you’re right, the CW must take that into account.
The last Monday Night Football game is December 26th. Supergirl is going on winter break after November 28th and won’t be back until late January – early February. So the next two weeks will be the only ones where new episodes could get preempted.
…and the ratings just keep falling and falling after the Nov 28th show.
-It is clear to people/families the directions and writing of SG now…so we have decided to turn it off.
Bring back SG of Season 1
Sorry, but your logic is flawed. You can’t link the ratings declines with the reasons you stated in your other comments. A show’s ratings almost always drop throughout a season, particularly in the second half of a season or after a big hiatus. Go look at other shows’ ratings charts. The ratings in the first season went from 13 million at the start to 6.1 million by the end of the season. Clearly, something wasn’t working in the first season so they made some changes to try to attract a younger audience, cut costs, and moved it to a younger-skewing… Read more »
The last sentence is written the truth.
A 0.86 average is fine for the CW, but not for CBS. f the live ratings average holds around there, it will be fine.
Just a reminder, but the CW affiliate in Houston aired “Monday Night Football” instead of Supergirl last week (the episode aired, I believe, last night on Sunday). That’s likely a reason the show dropped a bit in ratings, since Houston is a big market.
Omg the rating aren’t doing good….I think it was big mistake from the creators to move the show from CBS To CW network…..Even though all shows on Cw network have poor rating 🙁 as example look how were season 1 ratings before it was in CBS s01-01 3.15 ( demo ) 12.955M ( viewers ) s01-02 2.19 ( demo ) 8.865M ( viewers ) s01-03 1.71 ( demo ) 8.066M ( viewers ) s01-04 1.80 ( demo ) 7.769M ( viewers ) s01-05 1.52 ( demo ) 7.187M ( viewers ) s01-06 1.64 ( demo ) 8.019M ( viewers )… Read more »
I meant all shows on Cw network have poor rating ( Except The flash ) which is doing good as always ….since Iam huge fan and always watch all shows aired on CW network….never missed anything 🙂
Live ratings aren’t as important to the CW because a lot of their money comes from deals with NetFlix and the CW app. Supergirl is one of the top shows on them. That may even be why Supergirl doesn’t do as well live, people prefer watching the show on NetFLix or the CW app. So in that regard Supergirl is better off on the CW because it would have probably gotten about the same ratings on CBS, but not the on-line viewers.
its on CW now its reaches to far less people than CBS. And saying Flash ratings are good but not this even though viewership is right now almost identical with Supergirl in more heated competition than Flash faces on tuesdays. Supergirl is right now CW’s nr 2 show on one of the nights with the most competition plus preemptions sometimes also. You really have no clue what you are talking about!
I really love melissa benoist i find her a very talented actress ( and singer) but i can’t with this show anymore writing vfx i mean everyone on the production team sucks you see a show like the walking dead and GOT and wander how did this imbeciles got a job in the first place like really are u f kidding me??!! I watched all of season 1 but dear lord 2X01 was the end for me i couldn’t even finsh the episode it was sooo painful to watch with that terrible writing plus a ghetto superman and cw’s vfx… Read more »
the only good episode on the whole supergirl seasons was “the fallen”. after that, the show is getting down really bad.
They were all good last season. And this season is even better.
Agree whole heartedly
Why would being ON CBS be any better since CBS was smart enough to CANCEL the **** before “moving” it to CW..
CBS didn’t cancel Supergirl. It was never going to be cancelled, it was CBS top rated new drama. Supergirl was moved to the CW because CBS wanted to bring back the Monday comedy block. And the CW wanted to have a full week of superhero shows because their Monday shows were getting such low ratings. If the CW had not been available, CBS would have put Supergirl on Sunday.
Put it however you liked BUT I remember “super girl” being the one show that didn’t get any news of renewal of ANY KIND and it was “MOVED” to CW..CBS was smart enough to know/see a DYING SHOW; just as it’s DYING on CW right now..Speaking and comparing shows between a network like CBS and CW is a joke! BEFORE SG was “MOVED” to CW, everyone was SAYING that it was/or will BE BETTER OFF at CW due to it genre and the RATING would be better etc now, WE all know it’s NOT CBS’Z fault or due to whatever… Read more »
You are forgetting Limitless. Weeks after Supergirl was moved to the CW the fate of Limitless was still up in the air. Don’t know where you are getting lame and sucks from, the show is highly praised by the critics and the audiences and receives a lot of media attention. And is doing very good on the CW. Their 2nd highest rated show for six weeks in a row.
I really love melissa benoist i find her a great actress (and singer) and wish her a better projects in the future but I can’t with this show anymore the writing vfx I mean everyone in the production team sucks i want to know who writes and produce this show like really are you f kidding me ???!! U see a show like the walking dead and GOT and wander how this imbéciles got a job in the first place watched all of season 1 but dear lord 2×01 was the end for me I didn’t even finish the episode… Read more »
Supergirl on the CW where it belongs definitely should be renewed for a third season let alone more seasons should be filmed/shown as Supergirl is awesome great very cool RULES!
Strong numbers for Supergirl on the CW. If Supergirl can maintain a least a 0.6-0.7 sans Superman, she is probably good for a 3rd season.
There’s a REASON why CBS canceled the show and “moved” it to CW instead.
Before the OFFICIAL S1E1 even aired and the “pilot” was “leaked,” I knew the show would die and not make it and I was proven right..NOW it’s DYING on CW.. I only took noticed of S2 due to SUPERMAN and my liking of the actor but even that couldn’t keep me..It’s over ally cheesy and “Supergirl” Yeah, not working..
I don’t like it is to hokey. To politically correct. No salty. Talk its about fantasy for someone that has a low I.Q. The writing is bad and is trying not much. You do not need all the actors in it. A big waist of money nothing to look forward to like . Games of Throens and The Basted Executioner.
R I P supergirl.. i always knew that ****** channel will kill the show
What are you talking about? It’s the second highest rated show on the CW and has the most viewers.
