Last season, Supergirl aired on CBS but the ratings weren’t strong enough for it to stay on the network. The TV show’s now moved to The CW. Will many viewers follow the superhero series? Will it be a hit in the ratings on the smaller network — even though the numbers will be much lower? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood. Recurring actors this season include Calista Flockhart, Ian Gomez, Katie McGrath, Lynda Carter, Brenda Strong, and Tyler Hoechlin.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/8 update: The CW has renewed the Supergirl TV show for a third season. Details here.
5/23 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The first season of Supergirl on CBS averaged a 1.68 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.68 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Melissa Benoist is HOT! I don’t really care about the stupid gay thing or political statements. Glad she’s getting a divorce. Gives me a shot, assuming I move to where she lives, meet her, and she is interested in me. Right…
All of you who still watch this show please stop. It is too inappropriate for tv and needs to be cancelled. Please, don’t support this show.
Supergirl also does well in the Live+7 ratings. The most recent episode going from a 1.1 to a 1.9, a 73% increase. A couple episodes had a 100% increase in the Live+7 ratings. After the Flash, Supergirl is probably one of the safest shows on TV in terms of renewal for a 3rd season.
The reruns are also doing well for Supergirl on the CW, getting a 0.4, 0.3, and 0.4. Better than the Flash reruns. I think this may be due to the very positive response from the LGBT community. Notice that when the Alex coming out story started, the ratings increased. This bodes well for new episodes after the break. But obviously Supergirl will get renewed for a 3rd season anyway. So high ratings on the CW are just bragging rights. Looking forward to the Kevin Smith directed episode on January 23rd.
Please bring “The Men Show” back
The show had a solid start. But then it turned into propaganda BS.
I will use it as a teaching tool for what happens when TV tries to force PC and Political agenda. The show or organization always fails.
Cancel it!
I Agree 100%! I loved the Show when it first came out … but now it’s an Arm of the Obama Administration … Everything is either Gay or about “Illegal Alien’s” and their problems ….
Cancell this “IF” they continue to push their PC agenda over a fun TV Show!
|Agenda’s are for politics …when “We” watch TV we only wanted Entertained!
Season 2, so far, is appalling. I cannot believe how inconsistent they are with the Supergirl character. It’s so amateurish. In recent episodes, Kara Zor-el willingly killed John Corben/Metallo (deliberately held him at arms length and told her sister to kill him), and she killed Rudy Jones/Parasite (it was established early in the episode that Rudy Jones was still very much alive). The first season of the show founded Supergirl’s morality against killing so adamantly that there was even a mini-arc to clearly establish her aversion to killing (when she thought J’onn J’onzz had killed Astra, Supergirl made such a… Read more »
The show needs to go. Its seriously terrible.
Agreed.
It’s amazes me how all the comments that give their opinion about supergirls ******** are getting all the dislikes.People really must love this damn show.
This show (alongside Gotham) is easily one of the worst shows on free tv right now. It was always overtly political, but now it’s sort of becoming unbearable and one note. The Lynda Carter episode was essentially an hour long entertainment ad for Hillary Clinton and amnesty. And don’t forget the gimmicky plot development that’s thrown in our face out of nowhere – like black Jimmy becoming a vigilante, Alex liking girls despite the hinted romance with Maxwell Lord (she’s bisexual?), and the original Hank Henshaw calling himself “Cyborg Superman” for no reason. You know how SG resolved a extinction… Read more »
Should have been on the CW all along. I can see Supergirl running for at least 5 seasons on the CW. Maybe more. Worst show on TV? You don’t watch much TV. Earth-38 always had a woman president. Scheduling conflicts kept Lynda Carter from being on the first season. Hank Henshaw was Cyborg Superman in the comic books. Alex was just playing Max to get info. She did toss him in jail when she found out what he was u[ to. Disagree that Supergirl is a minor character. Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Supergirl have long been DC’s top three female… Read more »
I NEED IT TO BE RENEWED FOR A 3RD SEASON IT’S AN AMAZING SHOW . AND THE GIRL POWER IS GREAT
Amazing show great drama. Hope it stays on a long time. Great shows seem to always get cancelled though.
Kill the show. Too much LBG, girl power, and killing villains for solution.
Other websites are listing a 0.64 for the 10/31/2016 episode.
Thanks for noticing.
Disappointing second season. The decline actually started in the first season episode where Supergirl was poisoned by the kryptonite when she saved the firemen. But it’s worse, now. Cat is gone, the interaction between the characters is shallower and more artificial, and the story line has gone bipolar with too much character inconsistency (e.g. Kara loves James, then only 12 hours later in in-universe time, she’s changed her mind). With the obnoxious deluge of same commercials over and over added on top, I don’t know if I will be watching any more. Too bad. I laughed and cried along with… Read more »
has long has it dont turn into a soap opera, who cares about what sex people choose. choice, is god given.!!!
People shipping Alex and Maggie is the reason the ratings have gone up again.
and when katy perry appears as wonderwoman in two special episodes the rating will fly off more
The show started off good until they made the sister Gay not going to be watching anymore
It tied the season high this week, so a lot more people have started watching. I guess gays are as popular as Superman.
Actually, the ratings is wrong. Other places have it is .61, not .91. Matter of fact, the total watching in the millions numbers are off too. They don’t even match the percent change if you look. The show is doing worse then shown, and as shown its doing very badly.
Well, the gentleman that created it and all the other DC shows on CW is gay, so you probably shouldn’t watch any of them. It sad that your so ignorant to stop watching a show just because a character is gay.
It went up because it said it was part of the superhero crossover. People didn’t know that they would only be in it for 1 minute. I watched the episode and hated it
Dude. Anyone who actually bothered to read the synopsis knew it’s at the end of the episode. Seriously.
Then the gay gentleman should just watch his own shows. I am pretty tired of the whole gay thing too. Actually though, its a tedious story that isn’t even good enough for the CW. And just WAIT until Katy Perry kills it off.
Hollywood needs to stop the “Look at me, im gay!” down our throats (Tv shows)
When your heterosexual and what to see heterosexual storylines, personal choice to stop watching. That is why I stop watching. My personal choice.

I really like the show but now I’m Idisappointed in the change they made with the sister sexuality will not be watching anymore
It tied the season high this week, so a lot more people have started watching. I guess gays are as popular as Superman. So it makes up for the homophobes who stopped watching.
Damn! I’d almost forgot, if you don’t want your TV entertainment to be a 45 minute Advertisement for Hillary Clinton and Not everyone you know is Gay … you must be a Homophobe… How very Hollywood of you.
Well, the gentleman that created it is gay, so… He also has a gorgeous husband and they’re raising a happy and healthy child together.
I really enjoy this show as well as my wife! I hope there will be a season 2,3,4 and more!
