Last season, Supergirl aired on CBS but the ratings weren’t strong enough for it to stay on the network. The TV show’s now moved to The CW. Will many viewers follow the superhero series? Will it be a hit in the ratings on the smaller network — even though the numbers will be much lower? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood. Recurring actors this season include Calista Flockhart, Ian Gomez, Katie McGrath, Lynda Carter, Brenda Strong, and Tyler Hoechlin.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/8 update: The CW has renewed the Supergirl TV show for a third season. Details here.
5/23 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The first season of Supergirl on CBS averaged a 1.68 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.68 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
They have destroyed this show. Last year it was fun as she had her dual life. Now they have replaced that big part of the show with the struggle her sister is having as a lesbian. It’s becoming boring and will have a lot shorter life because of it.
Cancel it.
The CW has already renewed Supergirl for a third season.
This show has nothing that makes me wanna wait for the next episode. Unless things pick up in a huge way I think I am gonna ditch this teen romance drama that is masquerading as a comic book show.
I’m looking forward to Homecoming and the return of Dean Cain. Plus there is another Kevin Smith directed episode with Lynda Carter, Teri Hatcher, and Kevin Sorbo later on. So I’m good.
Can some fan of this show explain why do you like it? i mean it is like really bad imo. The lazy writing acting and bad props
Not hatin on you just curious
Melissa Benoist, great action scenes, some of the best VFX on TV, Melissa Benoist, good to great acting with lots of likable character, Melissa Benoist, interesting and fun stories, plenty of things from the comic books, Melissa Benoist,beautiful sets – bright and cheerful – a nice change of pace from all the doom and gloom of the movies and the Netflix shows, Melissa Benoist, lots of humor and heart.Melissa Benoist.
Heheheh dude you are so funny, you are mocking all the fans with Melissa Benoist , I wish you had your own show intead of this stupid show.
dude I’m dying of laughter somebody help me, oh god… Melissa Benoist heheheh
Lazy writing and bad cgi? Try Flash…. It’s getting worse. At least Supergirl is getting better at this.
Flash just uses the same formula over and over. Close friend getting abducted or being the villain, Barry crying that he can’t do something then does it, forced romance for Caitlin Snow, annoying sidekick trying to help Barry then makes it temporarily worse so Barry or some friend who you wouldn’t think of saves the day. It’s still a good show but Barry has so much potential, they hardly ever touch phasing or IMP. They need to quit being so dark and make some of his old Rogues come back for some minor relief. Captain Cold shoudn’t have been outted… Read more »
No. I watch superhero shows to see them beat the bad guys. I don’t watch shows pushing social agendas like the gay lobby. So no, I watched the entire season one, and season two until half the show was about Kara’s sisters sexual choices. Nope. Goodbye.
Supergirl herself is all about tolerance and inclusion. So if someone is intolerant then Supergirl probably isn’t the hero for them.
I hope to see Superman a little more in the season 3. Love Supergirl season 2 but for me Superman is to much missing when he is not around. Just one scene by episode will be just cool!!
I realize it’s a TV show based on a comic book character, but trying to jazz things up by making James and Winn another team of heroes is getting carried away. Plus, half of National City seems to know that Kara and Supergirl are one and the same. So much for having a secret identity. The whole show went from a mildly pleasant action/adventure series to an outright bore as they all spend so much time TALKING at each other that, when there finally IS action, it simply seems gratuitous, not organic.
Kill the bad guy of the week, then wait for your adopted sister’s girlfriend to come to your apartment looking for her. Repeat.
Rubbish.
Exactly the show always lacks of having strong enemies, the enemies who hurts her so much. But look it’s so poor. If it was a cartoon instead it would be good.
Funny how many of you here can’t handle a little thought-provoking storyline or, hell, a gay character. For christ sake people, wake the **** up, this is 2017, girls love girls, boys love boys, and republicans and democrats are bound to live side-by-side. Get real.
If by “this is 2017” you’re saying you think it’s a good show because of its “inclusiveness”, here’s a few things the show *could* include but doesn’t: 1. Villains that aren’t 2-dimensional. 2. Conservatives that aren’t villains or idiots. 3. People who pray to a higher power when National City is in danger. 4. People who distrust the aliens but aren’t necessarily underhanded or evil. 5. Gay or lesbian bad guys. 6. Asians. But of course, these types of people are probably either insignificant or nonexistent in the writer’s worldview, so why would they make it on the show? So… Read more »
The first season was almost good but the plot was horrible, For viewer’s sake How she got her costume? This is the stupidest thing i have ever seen on a superhero TV show, Arrow and Flash’s costumes are pretty decent in their plots or early of show, But this! Just WTF is this!??? Let me review this for you again: Boy: Hey you need your own costume SUPERGIRL!! Supergirl: What you got for me? Boy: Try this, I MADE THIS MYSELF!! blue and red are good for you! Supergirl: I hope it won’t tear and shred at all! Boy: No… Read more »
In previous versions Superman’s mom made his costume. Clark was very proud his mom made his costume in Lois & Clark. But Martha was a farm wife and so needed to have sewing skills. Kara’s foster mother is a scientist and probably never learned to sew too. So the task of making Kara’s costume fell to her metrosexual friend.
Come on This is the worst superhero’s costume and TV Show, Have you ever seen costume of characters below damaged so far?
Green Arrow = YES
Flash = YES
Daredevil = YES
Supergirl = NO!????
Yes she is immune to hurt but not her costume! Is the show stupid or us?
Dude. Barry in the flash was thrown and beaten up by so many speedsters and even a gorilla and yet Barry’s costume wasn’t damaged AT ALL. I think you either didn’t watch all the shows or just plain biased…..
If you had ever watched supermans new adventures, you’d know why the costume can receive a beating without ever getting damaged.
What is it with this show losing viewers? I wanted it to get a 2nd season, but it seems that it still can’t hold on to an audience.
Various reasons. Some people say it is too political. Others are anti-Gay and don’t like what they are doing with Alex. Doesn’t matter. Supergirl is till the CW’s 2nd highest rated show and was renewed for a 3rd season. Let’s see how Supergirl does next season.
Good thing it’s coming back for season 3
How come here it says the demo for last weeks episode was 0.78, but on another website it says it was 0.80?
Because we use unrounded numbers whenever possible.
As retired teacher and educator, I would grade Supergirl with a A++!!
Supergirl jumped the shark when the story flipped from that of a Kryptonian girl to the love affair between a couple Earth women.
Doesn’t jump the shark mean a show has done something that causes most people to stop watching a show? Because the ratings for Supergirl have increased with the Gay storyline for Alex. From a 0.64 to a 1.10, almost double the ratings.
get off the political BS. and back story line. you know, good against evil.!! & ratings got better due to cross overs, with other DC. COMIC SHOWS.!!!REX T W D.
What are you smoking? Aside from the crossover ratings jump a while back the ratings have been more or less in steady decline since the shows premier… last week it had a .67 and it’s because people don’t want to tune in to a superhero show to watch some liberal leftists agenda. There is enough of that everytime someone turns on the news. Do gay people exist yes but not to anywhere near the ratio that the gay producer of the DC shows writes them into his story lines. This show has on been on the CW 1 season and… Read more »
