Last season, Supergirl aired on CBS but the ratings weren’t strong enough for it to stay on the network. The TV show’s now moved to The CW. Will many viewers follow the superhero series? Will it be a hit in the ratings on the smaller network — even though the numbers will be much lower? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood. Recurring actors this season include Calista Flockhart, Ian Gomez, Katie McGrath, Lynda Carter, Brenda Strong, and Tyler Hoechlin.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/8 update: The CW has renewed the Supergirl TV show for a third season. Details here.
5/23 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The first season of Supergirl on CBS averaged a 1.68 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.68 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Renew the supergirl tv series ive been recording every episode and i look forward to the next adventures and dangers that await her that she always overcome its a fun show and should be around for a very long time
The show originally was fun and Melissa played a great adorable light-hearted super girl. The show now is filled with left wing PC feminist BS and is unwatchable and should be cancelled. Anyone familiar with SJW nonsense will immediately see its influence. I feel bad for the actors with what is now an obvious agenda driven show that is frankly embarrassing. Good riddance to this garbage.
Season 2 is awful. Superman is being a Whiny baby that the DEO holds kryptonite that could hurt him. Yeah they hold bullets that can hurt normal people too, he doesn’t seem to have a problem with that.
Good point.
Sorry but the political bs has just gone to far. The overarching theme about immigrants, lgbtq issues galore, making evil aliens talk about making things great again… I withstood all of it but when they knocked out superman with an uppercut that lifted him off the ground maybe 5 feet… and he was out for hours… hell no That man has fallen from space and created a crater, people have shot him in the face and he didn’t even blink. You think some little punch like that would even phase him? I mean they literally just threw each other out… Read more »
Let’s see their message is the “future is female”, Lex sister is “smarter” than he is, Kara’s boyfriend is a cuck, his mother kills his father, and Super girl physically beats superman… The show is a feminist/SJW/PC joke and should be trashed.
Poorly written & wasteful of viewer time. First half of the season was about a side character’s garbage coming out story. The second half was split between constant updates on that garbage story and Supergirl’s love interest’s family drama. Which may sound harsh but is still true. Basically the producers/writers decided to pander to a certain group; “shippers,” rather than tell logical stories. And I do mean that literally, whole episodes DO NOT make sense. Really, the entire season DID NOT make sense. The political messages were divisive, preachy, and idiotic. The writers on this show are simply not good… Read more »
I feel sad for Kara letting her boyfriend away, but I miss watching it thought. I love you guys. Kara/Alex/Clark
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, don’t cancel “Super Girl”!! I love all of her adventures! My heart would break if you cancelled this show! We need more women as Super Heroes and she’s been a great example for girls and women of all ages. This show is excellent and “Kara Danvers”, is wonderful as a woman who fights evil doers while still being vulnerable to love! By the way, I’m 61 years old and I hope to see the show renewed (you left me out of your target audience and there are many more like me)!!
S3 will be, its confirmed
I love Kara and mon-el ❤️❤️❤️ please don’t cancel.
thank you!!!
I quit watching SG if Mon-el doesn’t come back in season 3.
he will, he is confirmed
Great season finale. Nice to see Supergirl getting over 2 million viewers. Looking forward to next season. Who is in this pod?
Speculation is it’s a werewolf from Krypton! Check out this site: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/05/23/supergirl-who-is-the-mystery-character-in-the-season-2-finale
🙂
Supergirl is one of the best shows on television. Those who mention the political “left” and complain about it–what is wrong with the motto, “Stronger Together”? As a culture, we will be much stronger if we stand together and support each other through bad times, as well as celebrate good times together. That’s the heart of Supergirl. Mitch McConnell is a horrible politician who is filthy rich and cares nothing about people who don’t have money. I love the way Supergirl uses political terminology to point out how politics of hate and division are not only incorrect–they weaken us as… Read more »
Well said love super girl
I liked Season 1. It was far from being a perfect show and the writing sometimes was cringeworthy but it was a light and fun show and I liked the connection between the charaters, especially Kara/Alex/J’onn.
Season 2 doesn’t feel like it’s about Supergirl but about Mon-El instead. Suddenly everything becomes about him (remember Homecoming? Instead of making it about the Danvers, it focused on Mon-El and all the characters were dumbed down to prop him up. Just one of many examples).
Give Supergirl her show back!
I felt that way too. but there is much less mon el in recent episodes so its all good.
This is suppose t0 be a family show. It has become a sex and political program. I’m done with it. If you question this watch May 15, 2017 episode.
Katie McGrath the Irish Actress got me start watching Supergirl this season .I always looked forward all the episodes this season. But I stop watching and stop DVRERING the episodes of Supergirl when Katie McGrath was not in the episodes .I really did not miss any of the Supergirl episodes at all.Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor got me to watch Supergirl again.I loved how Katie McGrath plays Lena Luthor .If it was not for Katie McGrath I would stop watching Supergirl this season and not not not look back. With the May 15-2017 episode of Supergirl .I may not watch the season… Read more »
I watched the show with my daughters during the first season. We liked it. The second season was building up on my DVR when I heard about the lesbian spin. I just deleted it. I was looking for girl power, family time. What a shame. The Flash is good though. We still watch that.
I used to like this show until the Alex storyline, the copy room sex scene, and all the politics. They’re naming the season finale title after a Mitch McConnell quote… way too political these days. Cancel please.
