The new series on FX, Terriers, has been garnering some solid reviews. But, how did it do in the ratings? Should it continue for many years or be put to sleep…er, cancelled?
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
Per the overnight ratings, the Terriers premiere looks to be underwhelming at best. The debut attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 1.6 million total viewers. While cable ratings are typically smaller than those of the major networks, FX has seen much better.

To put it in perspective, in September 2008, Sons of Anarchy debuted to a 1.2 rating in the key demo and 2.53 million viewers. This past March, Justified’s premiere brought in a 1.5 demo rating and 4.15 million.
Even Nip/Tuck, which had sharply declined over the years, averaged a 0.8 in the demo and 1.7 million viewers for its final season — in the same Wednesday night timeslot.
So, Terriers has gotten off to a very poor start. FX is planning to pair repeats with new installments of Sons of Anarchy. It seems doubtful but maybe this will help. Right now, it doesn’t look like Terriers will survive past its first season of 13 episodes.
But, what do you think? Is Terriers worth watching or should it be cancelled? Cancel or keep it?

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! i know alot of people that are going to be upset if this show leaves! if i’m not here to watch it i tevo it. the guys are outstanding actors. if you want to remove some garbage from tv, get rid of some of the other junk that takes up space, but leave “TERRIERS” on!!
I have to say that this is a great show. I usually don’t watch police/crime themed shows, but that is pretty irrelevant here. Extremely likable characters, witty dialogue and complex and unpredictable story lines.
This show is good in every way. It is a joy to watch due to clever writing and fantastic acting. I think the name throws people off , especially since the show wasn’t promoted very vigorously by the network. It would be a true shame if it was not allowed to continue.
Terriers is brilliant. FX needs to make a strategic investment in this to nurture it along. This show is well written, the characters gritty, real and endearing. Each episode has a quirky job ripped from Ocean Beach’s underbelly and the inclusion of clues pointing to a longer multi-episode arc. The warmth, compassion and love is evenly balanced by poor judgement, guts, shame and sarcasm. I’d love to see FX resist the temptation to cancel this gem simply because it got off to a slow start.
Dear F/X:
Its all been said above except that I would simply re-market the show. At best premier marketing was nearly invisible, when it was it appeared obtuse, and now myself and my friends who are solid fans of the show have no idea what the original/current marketing strategy is at all about…. This show however slowly is gaining traction in the e-world. It also is providing quite a “shot in the arm” for the local economy in San Diego. Please re-new and continue your trend of maverick programming.
My husband and I LOVE this show! We are Rescue Me fans and when the season was over, we started watching Terriers and Always Sunny. So Far, FX has given us tv shows to watch and I really hope Terriers continues for many years to come. I can’t stand all of the other networks. The shows they put out just don’t seem real. FX has the right idea because they aim towards mature audiences who like good acting. All of the reality shows out there are a big waste of time and aim towards a younger audience. The actors in… Read more »
Terriers is an excellent show. I think that if FX piggy backed Terriers after Sons of Anarchy, and started Sons at 7 pm; then Terriers would have had a fighting chance. I even believe that if Terriers had been in the 7pm slot, it would have a better chance of surviving. Terriers is witty, Terriers is smart and I really believe that if the show was given a second season we’d see how this show would develop. Right now the show is at a cross roads kind of the same way as Sons of Anarchy was in it’s first season.… Read more »
To whom it may concern at FOX TELEVISION NETWORK. My name is Rodolfo”Gato”Gonzalez. Lightweight Boxing Champion of the World and a consecutive knockout record holder in boxing history. I had the previlegge of working in many episodes of Terriers and got to meet everyone including the stars of the series who became my good friends. Terriers is not only a great series it did provide a lot of work for hundreds of background people. We need Terriers Television Series to continued here in San Diego County. I m asking Fox Television Network to please re-new the contract so the series… Read more »
I really hope they don’t cancel this show. I have a feeling this show will just get better and better and it is character driven. It saddens me to see crap like Keeping up with the Kardashians doing well while creative, dialog driven shows like this one are getting poor ratings.
Terriers should definately stay on the air, its smart and funny It deserves more seasons.
Excellent show!! I have been telling everyone I know to watch it. Great cast and amazing plot twists and dialogue. It also looks completely different than any other show on TV with the Ocean Beach back drop. Quality show. Fingers crossed that we get another season.
LOVE IT! I really hope it gets another season.
I enjoy this show a lot! The characters are interesting and the lots engaging enough to keep me coming back every week. I hope FX keeps this on the air!
John said it perfectly. Great show. Needs more publicity.
I like it as much as justified and sons of anarchy.
Good show. Good acting and the plots are quirky enough to keep you interested. The plot is funny as the characters sometimes create more problems than they solve. Since DishTV dumped FX, I am having to watch episodes on FX on the web. Not as good as watching on the big screen, but the show is good enough that I come back and catch up on the Web every week. Hopefully DishTV and Fox will get their stuff straight, but either way I will be back next week for the new episode.
