Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

I can’t believe the shows you keep and cancel this one. release it and some other network will pick it up for sure.
That was a great show! They didn’t advertise it, so most people didn’t know it was even on. That was one of the best shows around. I hope another network like USA will pick up this show. It would work great there.
When you buy a house it’s location, location, location! With FX and Terriers it should have been promotion, promotion, promotion! You are tossing away a great show that could go on for many seasons. It has so much to offer. Drama, comedy, suspence, action and more. Give it some good “plugs” and the show will not sink. Make cable TV about what we want, don’t become another “National TV Type Service!!!” Wake up it is FX that is confused.
Wow, I am so surprised this was easily one of the best tv-shows I watched during the fall. FX, in my view had to have done a bad job in letting its viewers know about this tv show since after one episode you would get hooked. The acting, story-line (plot), and well basically the character development was great. It was not one of those shows were everything went slow, the director and writers made sure that the audience would figure out his characters in three episodes the most, and just the plot itself was great. Now, all I will wonder… Read more »
Morons! Once again no promotion of one of the best shows on TV. Then they cancel it! Really? I am so discouraged.
No way Brit skips across the boarder. Way to go FX. I get the poor ratings, not many shows can survive when NOBODY is watching because there is NO PROMOTION. YOU ARE FX NOT NBC SO YOU NEED TO PROMOTE NEW SHOWS MORE THAN THEY DO…. OR THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN! So let’s keep the poorly written and badly acted shows on the air with better ratings and kill off one of the best acted and best written shows in years. The only “problem” this show had, was that it was on your network. It even had a great theme!
Terriers is a smart, fun show. Few shows do I care if I miss and this was one of them, the ads for this show did nothing to promote it, the only reason I started watching is because of the two main actor’s past roles, one in Life, one in True Blood. Once I watched an episode I was hooked. What a huge disappointment, this was one of the best shows on.
Well crud!!! Terriers was one of the smartest and most interesting off-beat shows to end up being created in a very long time. It was a brilliant part for Donal Logue, and the best character he ever played. Even the relative newcomer, Michael Raymond-James (who was pretty good in True Blood), had a very believable and comfortable character. The writing on this show was better than most of the writing on television since “The West Wing”. I count this loss as HUGE for my viewing. I’ll be looking around for the petition to bring it back… with a passion! Heck,… Read more »
I agree with the others on this blog. I couldn’t wait until Wednesday nights for the next episode of Terriers. It was an awesome program and I preferred it to Sons of Anarchy (which I’ve completely stopped watching due to lack of interest.) It seems the studio execs have forgotten how it took some of the most popular TV shows a year or two before they really caught on. Please, please … if any of the appropriate execs are monitoring blogs on this show … reconsider your decision to pull this one. I’m sure all it will take is a… Read more »
Good ‘ole corporate America…knee jerk response to everything…why do they pay the big bucks to all the lame marketing and promotion people???…Haven’t they heard of specilaized audience, segmentation and developing a ground swell audience for longer term??? Two of my new shows (which have gotten good word of mouth and reviews…Rubicon and now Terriers have been cancelled in the first half of the first season)…Go Figure! Even with the 500 channel world the networks for broadcast and cable produce a majority of shows for idiots…intelligent shows, by and large, is an oxymoron to these people…something wrong with this picture???
One of the best shows of 2010. Very sad to see this one not renewed. I think this show was too intelligent for most FX viewers. I’m not saying FX viewers are dumb, I enjoy many of their shows, this one was just a little above their reading level. Maybe AMC will pick it up.
I love Terriers! I can’t believe it’s cancelled. They need to give it a chance.
Dear TNT,
The fools at FX just canceled a great show – Terriers. They say it’s because of a lack of viewers, but they kept it such a secret, not too many of us discovered it until it was apparently too late. The show had an interesting story line with great character development and terrifc acting. I’m certain you’d have another Emmy nominated hit on your hands if you pick this one up and let the world know about it. It’s a very smart show.
Give it a chance man.. Sons of Anarchy sucks compared to Terriers. FX DID NOT promote this show at all. Come on, Archer and the League? Give me a break. They suck also. FX you had a gem. If I had a say I would tweak this show and it would become a classic. Great acting and writing.
Are you kidding me! Terriers was probably one of the best shows on tv and fx.
I also watch sons of anarchy and archer but enjoyed terriers the most. I know lots of people that feel the same. I thought the actors made the show. Please reconsider the cancelation!
