Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Wow…I’m sorry but again whoever makes these foolish decisions is making another mistake by cancelling another good series. So sad…so sad and Michael Raymond-James is soooooooooooo sexy, too.
Like Sons, Terriers is not mainstream…THANK GOD! Smart funny well written and acted..AWESOME cast. FX is my #1 choice, yes even better than HBO now in my humble opinion! I record and watch Terriers every week and look forward to it. I try and tell everyone, just like I did with SONS. Which now has a HUGE fan base, going into season 4. Most my friends never saw the first two seasons!…PLEASE, Give Terriers another season…too much left that we have to know!!!
I am saddened by Terriers cancellation. I first saw Donal Logue on “Tavis Smiley” talking about the program. He peaked my interest talking about the show’s premise, and I NEVER regretted tuning in every week. Really complex characters and great stories. I loved the continuing story lines; just a wonderful smart show.
Terriers “is” one show worth watching. I had finally found my new favorite–up there with breaking bad and mad men in my opinion–especially since they’re not on right now…BUT the writing and the characters are all great. Please don’t take my Terriers away! I love it.
Contact FX (user@fxnetworks.com). Tell them you are joining the boycott of their network. FX had a chance to stand up for quality programming here, and decided instead to act like a *****. Let them know it matters to people.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so disappointed in their decision. This is a good show. Makes me want to stop watching TV altogether.
Finally a show that is raw and clever. Yes, it is well ahead of it’s time with actors that resemble the demographic, rather than the cosmetic surgery patients that most shows rely on to carry the ratings; but that’s not the only thing… This show boasts the wittiest scripts on television with sassy execution by the actors. May I remind you that Hank’s character is gritty, smart recovering alcoholic that makes you want to pull out your pom-poms and cheer him on; and Britt is ex-con, who makes you want to tell him your safebox combination. What a shame, that… Read more »
I lovec this show. I made sure I was home every Wednesday to watch it. I never missed a show. I was looking forward to the second season. I wanted to know if it was Britts child or not. Also does he go to prison or do him and Hank bail.I was really looking forward. I don’t think they should have canceled it because the second one could have been a huge hit. I know I would have been watching it and couldn’t wait for next Wednesday just to see what’s going to happen next I am sad that it… Read more »

My problem was that I have Dish Network and after about 5 episodes FX was dropped from the channel lineup during a contract dispute for over a month. I never got back into it after that and now I’m upset that I didn’t because I really like Donal Logue.
Re. Terriers. FX is making a terrible mistake. My neighbors asked me over Thanksgiving what new series was good to get into? Network or Basic Cable only — they have little kids, and not much time for any TV — and I said, There’s only One Really Good New Show – it’s called Terriers. TERRIERS. It’s offbeat – but in a brilliant script, great actors, small ensemble, chemistry (Donal & Michael as Hank & Britt; Hank & his ex-partner; Hank & his ex-wife; Britt & his girlfriend, Hank and his sister, Hank and anybody decent, really) gifted directors, ADs, sexy,… Read more »
wow, that sucks. i really like this show!
I am heartbroken! It was a great show. I wish they would’ve given it a second season and had it lead in to Justified and I bet it would have had a larger fan base… GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE… PLEASE!!!!
From my personal experience, FX did a horrible job of marketing this show. At first, I thought this was another animal reality show because of the show’s name, the lack of a recognizable cast, and nothing that told me what the show was about. I expect other viewers may have had issues understanding what the show was about and didn’t tune in.
I say to you: don’t lose heart, dear fans. This show *can* be saved. What it needs is a passionate, focused, sustained grassroots/word-of-mouth effort. Or perhaps an enterprising, savvy exec at another network. But both couldn’t hurt. Here’s hoping that the “Terriers” showrunners are actively shopping their gem starting Tuesday morning. First: there are changes a-coming in how to more accurately gauge audience viewership as we collectively move away from traditional cable/set-top-box content delivery systems. The FX execs might well become enlightened on antiquated ratings systems’ vast underreporting of true viewership numbers. There’s been a host of criticism re: Nielsen’s… Read more »
I sent a note to AMC this morning. I bet there are more likely networks, but this show could be a real winner for them with the right campaign. I am willing to put some effort into keeping Terriers alive.
