Could there be another season of The Alienist? Today, TNT announced the TV show has been nominated for six Emmys.
Based on the Caleb Carr novel, the historical drama centers on Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), an alienist, i.e. a criminal psychologist, who helps investigate a serial killer preying on boy prostitutes. The cast also includes Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Brian Geraghty, Douglas Smith, and Matthew Shear.
Since The Alienist has been nominated for six Emmys, it’s possible TNT could be interested in ordering a second season. Previously, the historical drama was planned to be only one season, but executive producer Rosalie Swedlin told IndieWire there is always the possibility of another season. Also, author Caleb Carr did write a sequel to the original novel.
We love the characters, and our goal when we set out to make the show was to tell the story of the book, which has a finite ending when they catch Beecham. At the moment, there are no plans for a further installment, but the whole process has been a great joy. So, who knows? And if those costumes are still available, I wouldn’t mind having one of them. I love the men’s suits as much as Dakota’s costumes.”

What do you think? Have you seen The Alienist? Do you want a second season?
Loved the show actually hated the book. My sister gave the first book to me about 20 years ago, since then I understand there are several more, she says they improved . I would definitely watch the next installment.
I really hope TNT decides to do a second season! I looked forward to every week when this series was on for season one. Not only were the actors exceptional and the costumes and art design spot on but it was all done with a remarkable directive. I loved bow the time period showed the diversity of women and man in that era. Women had to pour themselves in a dress, look attractive, behave like a lady and act almost mousey in a man’s presence. As a viewer, one will get much more than a great story line filled with… Read more »
A 2nd series would be great! The characters were enthralling as well as the storyline. Don’t keep strictly to Angel of Darkness. Expand on the character growth & historic connection.
Carr wrote a 2nd alienist book, The Angel of Darkness if anybody does it, hope they do a better job.
I hope they bring back The Alienist! This was one of the best shows my husband and I have watched!
I absolutely was hooked on this show, excellent acting and I love a good thriller.
I really hope they’ll have a second season.
I would absolutely love a second season of The Alienist! It was a great series with a great cast!
Heck yes!!! Great mini series.
Yes, I would definitely look forward to a second season of the Alienist. The show was well
written, acted and suspensful. Please do go ahead with a second season.
This was a truly excellent period drama. The writing, costumes and acting were well above average. If the writers could craft another story line worthy of this season’s high standards I would love to see another season.
That it still sucked in the ratings given the cast and cost of it, as it relates to ROI. Not to mention, unless Netflix coughs up another portion of it, TNT is on the hook for the entire production costs of the show for a show. Can we also talk about where those “nominations” are? None of the cast were nominated, even Luke Evans. It is all around “production”, such as costuming. The competition for Best Limited Series is FIERCE. Also, can we talk about the “benefits” of an Emmy nomination? In articles I have read, it ain’t a whole… Read more »
I loved The Alienist and would love to see season 2 – hopefully with the same great cast
Loved the show! Another season ‘yes’!!!
I’m surprised none of the actors were nominated. They all did such an incredible job. I would love to see a season 2
JK Simmons also got snubbed as well, imo. His work on Counterpart was great. That whole show didn’t get enough recognition. Maybe because it was on Starz.
YES–PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
