TV show description:
On each episode of this reality series, two families are faced with a decision that could potentially alter their lives forever.
Hard-working American families who’ve been experiencing financial hard times are presented with a briefcase that contains a very large sum of money — $101,000. They must then make a difficult decision — do they keep all of the money for themselves, or do they give all or part of it to another family in need?
They have 72 hours to learn about the other family’s challenging circumstances and make their choice. What they don’t know is that the other family has received an identical briefcase with the same instructions. Each episode culminates with the reveal of each family’s decisions and viewers are then given an update on how the experience and/or the money has changed their lives.
Series Finale:
Episode #6 — Moyas/Vendely-Salgados
The Moya Family: Gabe is and insurance agent and wife Krystal is a stay at home mom. They have six children under the age of 10 and are high school sweethearts whose lives revolve around faith and family. The Moya’s finances hit rock bottom in 2009, but through all the hard times, they remain positive, feel blessed, and are determined to raise their children with strong faith.
The Vendely-Salgado Family: Amari is unemployed and Natalie is a medical assistant. They have three children, all seven and under. Amari and Natalie’s financial situation hit a rough patch when Natalie was laid off from her position as a medical assistant. She has since found another job, but the time unemployed in-between jobs took a toll on the family. In addition there will be extra expenses for Amari’s transition. He was born female, but after giving birth to two children and living as a woman for most of her adult life, he now lives as a man.
In the end, the Moyas give away $10k (keeping $91k) and the Vendely-Salgados give away $15k (keeping $86k).

I can’t believe that the show has only been on for 2 weeks and CBS is showing a rerun tonight. You have got to be kidding me !!!
I say please keep it on, it so sad that with all the other drama and sad news going on in the world that CBS decided to put something positive on, yes you may have to deal with seeing some of the obstacles that have put these families where the are now and they may in some peoples eyes not meet there ideas of being poor or in need. I think the show is targeting the families in need of all types . I only wish they knew my story and how I could be a contestant on the show… Read more »
Love the show. But how can it continue? Won’t the couples in later episodes know what’s going on?
My husband and I watch the Briefcase and like very much. We would like to know how to be on the Briefcase. We are an low income family with health problems and an house that is about to fall down around us.
LOL bless your heart. I applied for the show. Trust me you will never get on to it. My family is truly needy. We are supporting a family of three on an income of 24k a year. We have no real insurance and our six month old child has had no medical care. Since his birth. I have been crippled and blind since 2002 but the rigged die before we pay SS system has refused to acknowledge any of the six applications we filed. In all that time we have managed to pay our bills and make ends meet. We… Read more »
I think you should renew this show. My husband and I watch weekly to see what the families do.
I really love this show it makes you wonder if you had to make the descions what would
you do?
A fully employed couple making 71k a year is considered poor now? Who knew lol.
No, they are lower middle class, but this family is going through their own kind of hard time. And they may be poor before long even with the 100K. The trouble with being lower middle class and then having hard times is that when all was well they were able to get a lot of easy credit and now they have big payments on it and can lose their home and vehicles and other things and then still have big payments left on what they don’t have any more. 99% of the economic gains since the last depression went to… Read more »
I love this show please do not cancel.
Of course they didn’t come close to being poor. Helping actual people in need makes for boring TV.
Watched the first show. Disgusting! Profiting from a ‘Reality’ show that manipulates the poor/middle class is horrible. The first show, of course, was manipulated to the perfect ending. I wonder if there would be positive comments if one family had $200,000 and the other nothing. The only positive thing about this particular show was that both families were actually in the lower middle class. They didn’t even come close to actually being poor. Poor people don’t go snowmobiling to lower stress, or try to start new businesses requiring thousands of dollars in investment. What damage will be done when a… Read more »
I love this show. Will be asking my husband to see it with me next week. Thanks for a great show.
This show is a joke.
I’m surprised at the negative comments? I watched for the first time last evening and found the show to be very moving. I liked following the journey of deciding what to do…they both had compassion on the other family. They come to the conclusion they have love in their families and are willing to give to the other family. I found it to up uplifting….
Don’t like the show please take it off.
The show should be cancelled immediately. It is disgusting. Please write or call CBS and your local station to ask that it be cancelled.

Thanks for the link to CBS! I recorded the first show, but haven’t watched it yet. I may not be disgusted, but wouldn’t be surprised. It sounds like one of those type so-called reality shows that disgust me. A 10-15 minute story dragged out by constant repeats of what just happened and showings of what you will see when it returns after the commercial break. And it sounds like one of those shows where they put people in either a difficult or a ridiculous position, and then milk the arranged ‘reality’ to attempt to create artificial drama and/or emotion, from… Read more »
