It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
I liked it. Interesting premise and good characters. Bring it AND “Designated Survivor” back.
This show got better each week. It’s to bad people didn’t give it a chance.I would definitely like another season. So many good shows are being cancelled .There won;t be much to watch this fall!
It got better and better, more interesting and now many stories left untold… Too bad, the networks keep offal on the air but anything with a potentially good story line becomes history
At first I didn’t like it but it grew on me. The series became quite compelling and each episode covered a lot of ground, unlike shows like Westworld which drag on with half speed dialog. The season finale was very good. Too bad no one was watching it.
This was a great show. It was a show that got better as time went on. I think it deserves a second chance.
My husband and I would have happily watched a second season. This is a good example of why I rarely watch new programs any longer. They seem to cancel the ones I enjoy.
Yes..it’s an interesting plot. …and getting stronger episode by episode..
I can’t believe The Crossing is being cancelled. The show was suspenfull and entertaining. I didn’t miss an episode and yes I’d watch season 2!
LOVED THIS SHOW. It just needs a chance. Just as we were getting into mestbof plot you cancel??! Your management SUCKS.
LOVED THIS SHOW. It just needs a chance…. it’ll be the next Lost.
Why cancel the Crossing. It was good
I enjoyed the crossing and hope it gets picked up. The network mismanaged it from the outset with little advance publicity and then delays in the episodes. That crap needs to stop because people hesitate to get invested with the way programmers juggle the shows
I really enjoyed the show ! PLEASE Bring it back ,especially to a network take is easy to access and Free or Low Cost ! !
When society can’t get involved in a good clean show there’s a problem
I loved this show. ABC stands for All Bout Cancellations. First it was designated Survivor, then Roseanne, now the Crossing. In baseball that is a strikeout. This network is a graveyard for good shows, yet they keep running American Idol, the Batchelor/Bachelorette, and other garbage. Why a show runner ever markers a series with ABC is beyond me. I hope these 3 find life elsewhere.
I can’t agree with you more Vince! This was a great show with interesting characters and a story line that is fresh and new, and has lots of ways to take it.
