NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.
What do you think? Do you like The Enemy Within TV show? Are you sorry that it’s been cancelled and not returning for a second season?
Very disappointed that The Enemy Within was cancelled. There are very few shows that I watch on the main networks as I believe they fall short of Netflix, etc. Was very excited about this one. Please reconsider for another season!!
Oh No!!! This was one of the best shows on TV. I thoroughly looked forward to viewing this show each week. Why? Everyone does not watch the voice and you have to consider a show for the older people who can identify with this type of drama….
Networks don’t care about the opinions of mature adults, which is a shame since the majority of the television watching population is made up of that demographic.
I love this show. Please rethink your decision
I cant believe this. This is trash the way you do your viewers.. That’s why i dont watch your channel. Back to skipping pass your station.
I just read another article from this site and it appears that the CW has renewed almost ALL of its (new) series! At least the people at the CW give a show a darn chance to catch a real fan base! The network channels seem to cancel any series that’s truly a good interesting watch! I’m tired of this and I, also, HOPE that a cable channel PICKS UP The Enemy Within! I so enjoyed the acting and the characters and the plot! It made me want MORE! At least ALL of my CW favs were renewed! TY CW! A… Read more »
I agree with you! I hardly ever watch network tv!
I liked The Enemy Within. Hopefully it’ll be picked up by another media house.
This is very disappointing. This show was great, very much like Showtime’s “Homeland” and the pre-streaming TV era’s “24”. Hopefully Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu will save it, much like Netflix did for “Designated Survivor.” NBC didn’t give this show a fair chance!
very very very disappointing. who cares about the voice etc. this is the reason I don’t watch the networks very much. they just don’t recognize good drama

I enjoyed this series. It kept you wondering what was next. I hope someone else picks it up. I’m getting tired of NBC. Cancels too many good shows. I guess I’m not in the right age group.
Typical of NBC….leaving viewers hanging. No wonder the “Big 4” networks are losing viewers to cable .
Very disappointing. Enough with the Voice and AGT type shows. It’s nice to have options like this drama/thriller with a plot and sequence. I hope someone else picks it up so I can continue watching. NBC is starting to lose it’s luster. Too many reality TV shows. We get it people like to sing and dance and compete on TV. But many people still appreciate plot based shows.
I agree a hundred percent too much reality tv. Thank God for biiks.
Totally agree!♥️
I love this show! So I guess it was doomed to fail! That seems to happen to me. Love the characters and loved the story line. Shame on you NBC! No unintelligent story line, no gratuitous sex and no foul language; just a wonderful cast and intriguing story lines!!!
I am SO over NBC, you guy’s suck!! I am so tired of watching really good shows only to get cancelled. NBC does not give hour shows enough time to create a fan base. I really hope that this show finds a new home.
Me, TOO!
