Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

The Event is the best show that has been on network tv in a long time. I would definitely pay to watch it. Hope it is picked up by another network.
One comment says it all, the networks just don’t get that most of us watch these shows on demand or record them for later viewing. I love The Event, FlashForward, V and The Chicago Code yet all of them are either gone or just cancelled and we keep getting more and more reality crap thrown at us. I have no interest in watching fat, loud women married to wealthy men ***** and claw at each others plastic surgery altered faces so bring back the creative shows and get rid of this reality garbage!
renew the show somewhere else, screw nbc…..tnt pick it up like you did my other favorite show southland
BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! SAVE THE SHOW NBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes The Event should be saved it’s an excellent show.
LOL from Penny.
Save The EVENT this show is GREAT much better than that phony reality c%#p
Save it….best show on TV.
SAVE THE SHOW! Interesting, unique, not too unfeasible – PLEASE keep it on NBC, more viewers are coming to the show all the time, and it’s more accessible on network TV.
I agree — please save this show — it really holds your interest — and Simon is so dreamy!
Yes – save it. The show has improved so much in the last episodes that it is now a must see. If if NBC chooses not to retract its cancellation, another syndication source should definitely pick it up. Netflix, are you listening? It is that good of a show. Intelligently written, well executed, and set up for a great Season 2.
YES, YES, YES! Save The Event and quit putting it on HIATUS! Why do you think your shows draw lower numbers that you expect? STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!
Yes! It’s an amazing show, I love it!
Save the show!! Sick of all the reality rubbish on TV/Satallite and Cable…I live in the UK…we’ve lost some really good shows, i.e John Doe, Caprica, The V, Stargate Universe and now this….it has to stop now.
Enough of the reality shows…..Love “The Event” ……Get rid of the Voice instead……What happened to normal shows that keep you guessing?
SAVE IT.
These networks just don’t get it. The audience is bigger than the Nielson’s Ratings. There are many people (like me) that watch the show after it’s recorded. There are many other things going on in peoples lives and they just cant watch it as it airs. You, the networks, try and trap me into watching things on your schedule. Time to revamp your thinking, on demand viewers are now the norm, whether they watch on their video recording devices or online such as Netflix or Hulu. WAKE UP and get in the game.
Love this show! but as usual, this network either moves the show around or takes it off for a long amount of time, then people will think its canceled. i believe this is when they wish it to be over. Well, this show is good. I am sick of the junk reality crap. Come on, leave it on.
