Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

“The Event” is a great TV show that deserves to find another home. I can only hope they’ll make it somewhere else
I love The Event and I hope it finds another network because it deserves a chance. I’m so tired of the networks cancelling good shows. They are only interested in how much money a show can make and if it doesn’t they pull the plug. People actually care about these shows and they do have a huge fan base. Do the networks know aobut DVR service. Maybe some people work at night or are busy with other things but that doesn’t mean they don’t tape these shows and watch them later. It’s all a numbers game to them. I am… Read more »
The Event is outstanding. It’s the only show I’ve watched regularly since 24 ended.
I hope it continues somewhere. I’ll go where it goes.
DO NOT CANCEL “THE EVENT”!!!!! I LOVE this show and have gotten many friends and family hooked on it as well. TV has become a sea of reality programming (most of which is total crap) and there are so few scripted shows on TV now, and “The Event” is the ONE that I am so loyal to because it’s so intelligent, well-written, the acting is amazing, and it is filmed like a motion picture (kind of like “LOST”). I am on the edge of my seat every week and have blurted outloud many a time while watching the show, “Damn,… Read more »
I am done investing time and emotions into network TV shows. I got screwed after 1 season of Life on Mars. And now, apparently, the same will happen with The Event, which I love. Forget it — I’ll read a book instead. Books don’t get cancelled by weak-minded network morons with no concept of attention spans. I’m done with network TV.
Please don’t cancel The Event, it is a wonderful show and my family loves it. It is NBC’s fault for taking it off the air for sol long in the winter. Give it a chance. For the lofe of me I don’t see how all these really good shows are taken off and drivel like How I met your Mother is still on the air. Seriously!!!
I am also dismayed at the cancellation of “The Event.” I am also a bit mystified as to why any network would leave a show off the air for — what was it, four months? — and then complain because the numbers dropped. I am, however, optimistic in reading that another network may pick up the show (please, for the love of GHOD Montresor, NOT the SyFy Channel!). I think it might be interesting if some network (and see the SyFy Channel comment above) were to run a series of four two-hour SF movies every week, a new episode airing… Read more »
Yes !
This is a great Sci-Fi show, I would totally watch season 2, no matter where it was – and yeah I would pay for it.
The show stumbled a bit around episode 13, after NBC took it off the air for a few months – it seemed evident that the show had been retooled – for whatever reason. But the writers regrouped and the show is once again a fast paced, entertaining thriller with a great cast.
I was very excited to see this new serialized show on the NBC roster, and I’m extremely disappointed NBC has such a short attention span. Think of the great iconic shows that would never had made it if networks were as quick as they are today to dump a show. I really hope someone picks this up and makes it the Family Guy of sci fi.
I can tell you that I am officially done with NBC. They cancel all of the intellectual programming to make way for mind-numbing TV.
I am in full support of The Event finding a new home! We are dedicated fans (saying a lot considering we don’t watch much TV), and I wholeheartedly love everything about this show. I wish there was more I could do to help.
NBC you are a bunch of idiots!! Argh why do all the great shows get canceled and crap remains?!? The Event was awesome and had so much potential for future seasons! I’m in anguish. Ok that’s a bit dramatic but this is HORRIBLE news!!
I was stunned by the news that The Event was being cancelled by NBC. Why!! This a great story that should play out to the end. Why leave the fans hanging like this. Shows like Heroes and Lost jumped the shark early. At least get through a Season 2 and have an Series Finale at the end of Season 2. Get rid of some of those mindless reality shows!!!
If nothing else, this show belongs on the Syfi Channel. Please save this show!!!
I LOVE the Event. Its the one show I watch regularly, and I am a 45 year old mom with a small child. Please find a home for it elsewhere!
A warning to all the fans of “the event”: if you see an ad for a show on nbc that looks promising-”DONT EVER WATCH THAT SHOW,BECAUSE NBC WILL CANCEL IT ONCE THEY KNOW YOU ENJOY IT! As a fan of “the event”,it is shameful how they cancelled this wonderful program! Nbc is to blame for yanking this show off the air 4 four months! As a loyal fan,I returned & kept watching “the event”,but, the casual fans began watching other shows& did not return when “the event” came back. Why do these networks think it is ok to keep fans waiting for… Read more »
