Premiering in 1973, The Exorcist became one of the most successful movies in history. But, how’s The Exorcist TV show that’s airing on the FOX network doing? Will this TV series be long remembered or quickly forgotten? Will it run for many seasons or will it be cancelled? Cancel or keep it?
The Exorcist TV show follows two very different priests. Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) is progressive, ambitious and compassionate. Meanwhile, Father Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) is relentless, abrasive and utterly consumed by his mission. Together, they tackle a family’s case of a horrifying demonic possession. The series also stars Kurt Egyiawan, Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Brianne Howey, and Hannah Kasulka.
Debuting on September 23rd, The Exorcist attracted a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.85 million viewers. That was a disappointing start in the ratings, even for a Friday night series. And the numbers have gotten worse.
In week two, the demo rating dropped 40%, falling to a 0.6 rating with 1.976 million viewers. The later episodes rose to a 0.7 in the demo but total viewership has remained about the same, never cracking two million.
Unfortunately, with such poor ratings, The Exorcist will surely be cancelled. It’s hard to imagine that FOX execs would order any more episodes or even consider making a second season of the series. Hopefully the 13th and likely final episode will bring the show’s small audience some sense of closure.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Exorcist TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or moved to another night? Cancel or keep it?
Please keep it. Love this show. Look forward to watching it every friday.
Keep the show!!! It’s a great show and well done.
Keep! I watched this movie at 13 and was scared to death by it. I still have a hard time watching it. I love the tv show and the fact we just found out the mom is Regan!!! I wanna see this play out and more.
My question; how does Fox or any other major network determine their ratings? Is it determined on how many viewers watch a show on the original night it’s aired, or do they take into account the (now) millions of viewers that no longer have cable? Therefore, said viewers have no DVR that falsely says the show was watched when it really wasn’t, no REAL way to prove actual “ratings”. Right? Maybe, give a show more than a few episodes, and look at the Hulu, Sling, Netflix, ect, then take into consideration views that could possibly take weeks to determine. I… Read more »
I love this show. PLEASE don’t cancel. people just need a chance to know it’s on there. At first sight I assumed it was a movie. Now I’m anxiously waiting for each new episode.
Great show please don’t cancel.
I like this show.. I hope they don’t get rid of it , they need to give shows a chance.
Exorcist is a great, character-driven show. Keep it. There’s nothing else compelling in that Friday time slot, and it’s interesting for both people who grew up with the film, and for those who didnt.
First the Omen gets canceled on a&e and now the exorcist is going to get axed… what cult movie will TV ruin next!
This is a great show. PLEASE don’t cancel. It’s just starting to really get interesting.
Keep it!!! I love this show. …. it’s scarier than some horror movies at are at the box office. ..
Please keep the show! Great script, great acting, completely hooked after episode 1. Maybe switch to a different night since most people are out on Friday nights.
Star trek was going to be cancelled early on due to bad ratings. Hope this show is renewed
Its a great show! I think it just needs a different night.
Surprisingly the network version is better than expected. Keep the show going. There are not very many good scary dramas on network tv anymore. We need some scary in our lives. Don’t move, give some time for people to hear about it.
