Though ABC didn’t have much luck with their Eastwick drama, the network is trying another kind of supernatural series, The Gates, for the summer months. Will this one make it to season two?
The Gates revolves around a big city cop who moves his family to a quiet gated community where many of the residents aren’t exactly what they appear to be. The ensemble cast includes Rhona Mitra, Colton Haynes, Frank Grillo, Janina Gavankar, Chandra West, Luke Mably, James Preston, Marisol Nichols, Skyler Samuels, Travis Caldwell, Victoria Platt, and Justin Miles.
The series debuted on Sunday, June 20th, to an unimpressive 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.78 million viewers. Considering all of the network’s promotion, this was a disappointing start. The premiere ranked first in the demo and second in total viewers for the timeslot.

In week two, viewership for The Gates dropped by about 30%. The demo fell to a 1.1 rating and total viewership came down to only 3.24 million. That put the show in second place in the demo and in third place for viewers.
Though ABC has lower expectations for this summer show, the ratings do not bode well for the show’s future on the network. Unless more people start watching, it’s hard to imagine that we’ll be seeing season two.
For now, let’s hope they show all 13 episodes of season one. The Gates is expected to run until September 19th but, with ratings like these, it’s not hard to imagine the network replacing them with something else.
What do you think? Is The Gates worth watching or would you just cancel it already? (Want to know how Scoundrels is doing? Go here.)

Give it a chance. It’s a wonderful night-time soap. And what else has ABC got going anyway? Wipeout? Comedies? Football? The occasional Harry Potter movie?
Great show! I like the different characters. I like the interaction of werewolves, witches and the twist of crime drama than just a plain vampire show. I watch the show while I record it. I hope this show makes it. I think people need to give it a chance if they haven’t. The suspense has really built up, now that it’s the end of the season. Episode 12 was great!
i love the gates i hope it continues
I haven’t missed an episode. It comes on while I am at work and I record it. I look forward to it every week and am saving my recordings so I can rewatch them. The only other shows I record are Bones, Glee, Castle and Fringe. Please, Please, Please don’t cancel it. I hate True Blood and the Vampire Diaries are OK but The Gates in my opionion are better than either one of these. You guys just need to give it another chance.
i absolutely love this show this show and vampire diaries are the two shows i look forward every week to watch im on my seat at the end of each show do not cancel it you would be disappointing a lot of ppl
I really love the show and I hope it makes it to another season. I did not start watching it until the third episode and cannot then could not wait until the next episode. Don’t Cancel It!
Love it! Can’t wait for the season finale and Season 2 !
I absolutely LOVE this show. PLEASE do NOT cancel it. It is such a relief from all the “reality” shows that are no where near real.
I love The Gates. My favorite shows are ones that are more imaginative and not all the cop and serial killer shows. Although I do like some of them also, this type of show is my favorite. Please do not cancel. There is a lot more to learn about The Gates.
I like this show. It has potential. I hope it’s given a chance for Season 2.
Keep it !!!!!!!!Please do not cancel this show. I can’t wait each week till it is on. This is a great show! It keeps getting better every episode please don’t take it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Gates is definitely a keeper, its so original and different its the only show I look forward to watching on Abc aside from all that bachelor, bachelorette, and now bachelor pad crappp
Personally, it is the only show on TV that I look forward to watching, I have my recorder set to tape it for every show, it has lots of excitement and it seems that every show that I start to like or watch weekly and actually can not wait for it to come on has been canceled and for the nuts whom do not like there are lots of other channels to watch… you take off any thing that is or has anything supernatural like its a sin or something , its just entertainment does not mean that one is… Read more »
Keep it, I love the show….I tune in every week and can’t wait til the next show comes on….
Cancel it. Too slow, most of the actors are good but the Monohan family, has no substance, it takes 2 or 3 epsisodes for anything to happen. I find myself fast fowarding through most of it. I discontinued recording it.
This is a phenomenal show that incorporates every aspect of the supernatural world. I was hooked from the beginning to see how all the characters related to each other. It was an upset to loose LOST which was a thriller every week, leaving my household on the edge of our seats every week. Now we have a new show to watch leaving us wanting more. Maybe if you had continued watching you would understand the substance that can be reached when the supernatural and the natural world connect.
