As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

Was doing some research to see when season two would be starting and found your article. What a total shame! I really loved watching The Gates. Like others who have posted previously… it seems when I serious enjoy a show and get really attached to it, well it gets cancelled. This really sucks =(
I am really disappointed that they cancelled this show, I was really looking to the second season. I am really disappointed with ABC, what are they going to do go for another reality show? They had a great cast, a good story line that kept me impatiently waiting for the next show, and it was a nice break from the same old sitcoms and stupid reality shows.
I looked forward every Sunday night to see “The Gates”. I thought it was a great show.
A few shows that I really liked have been cancelled and yet some shows that are ridiculous remain on air. I guess a lot of people like those kind of shows.
I cant believe this got canceled! It was the only show i was really into after MONK. Damn ABC, all they want are “teen prego” stories, re-do’s of superman, and taking the fun out of anyshow I love. I officially boycott ABC and any “productions” They have.
Does anyone remember “Big Wolf On Campus?” Loved it too… But what happened..ABC’d
Already Been Canceled.
I loved “The Gates!” I’m really tired of TV shows that I fall in love with being canceled. It makes me want to forgo watching TV altogether, that way it just won’t matter.
I really wish it would come back on. I was surprised to find out that it was canceled, just like several of the shows I’ve liked have been. I suppose I have odd taste, but I really wish that it had continued.
WHAT!!! Now that sucks. Seems that whenever a decent new series comes along it gets killed after one season while other copy cat, mostly inane, series seem to thrive???? Oh well, the Sci-Fi channel has a new “original” series starting soon called “Being Human” (I think “original” is a euphemism for remake of a british series of which season two has yet to emerge)
I’m really upset that The Gates has been cancelled. I decided to Google it to find out when it was coming on and I find out ABC has cancelled it. Why is it every time I get interested in a showthat they put on they cancel it after one freakin season. I hope another network picks it up. This is crap and I’m pissed off.

It was such a good show! Too bad networks always seem to go by ratings and I believe tehe way they do it no longer applies, too many people tape a show and look at it later for ratings to be accurate. Wise up networks! TG I still have the last 2 episodes taped so I can look at them !

I’m very upset it’s not returning. I have been waiting for it to return. I am getting sick of watching tv….it was really a great show. With cable being prevalent in people’s lives today, maybe everyone didn’t see the advertisement for it. I liked it better than Vampire Diaries. Hopefully someone will pick it up.
I REALLY LOVED THIS SHOW. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME I FIND A SHOW I REALLY LIKE IT GETS CANCELED. THE WHOLE VAMPIRE THING IS SO POPULAR WITH THE TWLIGHT SAGA PLUS OTHER SHOWS THAT ARE ON TV RIGHT NOW, I CAN’T BELIEVE THE RATINGS WERE BAD ENOUGH TO CANCEL THIS SHOW. WELL, I LOVED IT & I HOPE MAYBE BY SOME OFF CHANCE IT WILL GET PICKED UP BY ANOTHER NETWORK AND BROUGHT BACK.

Seems like every time I get involved in a show it gets cancelled , with the Vampire Diaries, the grave over Twilight and such shows . What are you thinking ?? Typical !!!
