As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

ABC I am Highly disappointed in your decision of canceling this show “The Gates” I got really into it, And the worst part is that you canceled it when it got INTENSE. now I’m sad because while i was pregnant with my first baby I was waiting for it to return. What a SHAME. Bring BACK THE GATES! at least for one more season.
Yeah that really does sucks, abc always canceling the good show, you guys suck, bring the gates back!!!!!!!!!!!
definatly need to bring the gates back awsome show
This is show number four youve cancelled ppl. what is going on? I love this show. I demand you bring it back!
This is ridiculous! I do not watch ANYTHING on ABC, for this reason! I just started watching the show, found it by accident and fell in love with it. But alas, network television at its best. The past 2 years, I have started watching numerous shows, and they were cancelled! We need more than cops, CSI’s and lawyers. Oh lets not forget the mundane 30 minute sitcoms (that we all love, including me)! I just wish a network would start a show, and let it run!
WOW! ABC does it again. Best show on the network is gone and I sure hope someone else would pick it up. Then, you’d see what hugh mistake, ABC, you made.
I absolutely loved this show and the actors… It’s a shame, they always cancel the good ones. I’ll miss it, but maybe they’ll bring somethin just as good on, and hopefully won’t cancel it.
It is quite annoying that they keep canceling all the shows I like!! It makes me want to stop watching new shows period!! I think I will just stick with my netflix instant shows at least I know what to expect and if there is going to leave a cliffhanger that I will never get answers to.. BTW how is it all the crappy shows with similar ol’ storylines keep coming back and reality shows that totally suck?!?!?!?
That dose suck ! I waited every week for The Gates to come on it was becomming one of my favorites! Now I’m never going to know what happons, I never think the show had a fair shot with only one season alot of people didn’t know about it till way after it started.
Why don’t they continue the series just for DVD sales?
This REALLY sucks!!!!
I think it sucks big time! TV doesn’t give anything a chance anymore! Think Swingtown, Happy Town, etc. All good shows, all gone. When you put a TV show on in the summer you know the ratings won’t be what a winter show will be! Same with moving a popular show to a Friday night….like Fringe and Medium. Ratings will be different. But none of this seems to matter. The people be damned. Let’s just cancel. Then they wonder why ratings are down all over….like Arsenio Hall once said on his show….”things that make you say hmmmmm….”
ABC suck!, I hate you . you never creative anything finish.
