TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Love the show. Keep it!
I love The Librarians! It’s a great show, that can be watched by the whole family!! It’s got a solid cast and a great story line so far!!
Absolutely keep it!
Renew! Renew! Renew! This a great mix of fun action adventure and magical mystical goodness! There isn’t really much else like it on TV.
Please keep the Librarians!
Keep!!!! It’s so fun!!
Keep The Librarians on.
KEEP IT PLEASE. FREAKING LOVE IT!
keep the show going!!! My family and I look forward to Sundays just to watch this show.
keep it !
Keep it!
Please hire better writers. Are the writers of the defunked series “Warehouse 13″ looking for work? The acting is at best mediocre. Casting better must be a priority. TNT should raise the bar or lower the boom on this one. Just watched the Episode 8 of Season 1, ” And the Heart of Darkness”……wow…..weak story, lousy FX, and overall….terrible acting by casted villainess…..it may not have totally sucked…but…it most definitely did suck.
If this does make a season two…..something is wrong at TNT.
Keep this great show!
RENEW! Awesome show, they’re really finding their rhythm now and the actors are gelling perfectly. Love the plots, love the mythos, love the action! So good. <3
TNT, you broke my heart with the cancellation of Leverage. Please don’t do it again. Renew this show which is such good, clean fun. It’s been the highlight of my Sunday nights…and that’s saying something as much as I love football.
