TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Bring the show back, it is a good and fun show to watch. I really like it.
Keep it, love the show!
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW! The Librarians is one of the best shows on TV right now. Not only is it entertaining, it also teaches young people about history, art, science, and math. It has a strong female lead, which is important for young girls to see. We need more shows like this. It would be a bad decision to cancel it.
Keep it please. It’s fun, silly, family friendly and the characters are great.
Season two please….I need my Christian Kane fix!!!!!!!!!!
Keep the show, it’s interesting and definitely has something interesting for everyone in the family. I watch the show with my siblings/friends all the time, and between the mythology, math, science, physics, and everything else, it’s a great show.
The Librarians is an amazing show! Please renew for S2 and keep renewing!
We need more Noah Wyle, just recently watched the trilogy of Librarian movies and there’s so much more they can do with the show. The new characters are awesome and they can still use some from the movies.
Definitely a keeper. For those of us who don’t watch football this is a great alternative. Besides not everyone wants edgy. I really hope it’s renewed for a second season. If all else fails move it summer.
Keep. First time in a long time since I was excited about a Sunday night. Now I can’t wait for Sunday. Please keep The Librarians. Love the cast.
I really enjoy it. It is fun to watch a show that everyone in the house can enjoy. I love Lindy Booth’s character. Christian Kane is always a favorite in this house!
Please keep the show. I love it. Very entertaining.
Love, Love, LOVE, this show!!!!!!! Please keep it going, there are very few TV series that can keep my interest!!!! This one definitely accomplished it. I think the cast members are perfect for their characters!!!!
KEEP love this show
Please keep the show. The series is just getting good.
Keep it. These shows have something that appeals to everyone without being too serious about anything which is what people want, no need. This is ENTERTAINMENT! Something you watch just to enjoy. It’s smart, funny, exciting, romantic, it has universal appeal. The characters are great, the cast portrays them perfectly, the writing is exemplary.
